ive got a 379 with 63” standup and need a headache rack for chains/binders. I’m wanting a cabinet but am not sure if I will hit with a trailer. Whoever put my 5th wheel mount on must’ve been drunk because with the plate slid all the way back it sits just in front of center. Anyone had any experience with this? I’m thinking I will have to get a shorter sleeper to fit the cabinet but 48” bunks are pricey because they apparently “look cool”

    Oxbow Thanks this.

Also on a side note, which is easier; putting a flat top cap on an ultra cab or the sleeper? Don’t need the wind resistance with what I’m doing

I run my 5th wheel up that far to get decent weight on my steer axle all the time. Anythime longer than 244 shouldn't have any problems fitting a headache rack in there. Save your money on the bunk question. Its a big job either way and not worth it imo

    Oxbow and stwik Thank this.

What's the Pin setting on your trailer?
Not knowing what kind of wheel base your working with, your question is hard to answer.
Transforming the sleeper is a costly endeavor, and not worth it in the long run.

You have more options than you listed.

First however, what's your wheelbase? If you have the extended hood, you want a minimum of about 265wb. If you don't have the wheelbase for an enclosed headache rack, you can add boxes to the trailer OR install a header board with a built in chain rack. I believe CRST Mallone runs those types of trailers.

And if you could, can you post a pic of your truck with the 5th wheel all the way back?

What’s the wb on your truck? Plenty of Canadian guys run cabinets with 244” wb. Moving your 5th wheel plate or carrying gear on your trailer would be cheaper options than a smaller bunk.

Well it’s a short hood, but has I believe a 260 base. I currently carry everything on my trailer but am looking to add a lowboy and want all my chains with me if I switch trailers. It wouldn’t matter too much but I’d like to still be able to pull a van if needed. That’s where my issue is

And I forgot to mention I have to replace the sleeper regardless. I wrecked my truck in December and one of the rear mounts ripped out of the sleeper and also dented one side up

I have a short hood 260 wheel base 379 with a 63 inch sleeper. I got almost 6 feet between the front of my trailer and the rear of the sleeper. I’m pretty sure you can fit a enclosed headache rack in there
