"A scientific theory is a well-substantiated explanation of some aspect of the natural world, based on a body of facts that have been repeatedly confirmed through observation and experiment. Such fact-supported theories are not "guesses" but reliable accounts of the real world."

The article does mention potential pollution from older model engines. That was one topic covered, another being the political influences to allow such production to continue, positive and negative.
You have expanded it to a completely different topic, whether or not climate change is real or imagined, man made or of a natural occurrence.
You can introduce that boogeyman into every conceivable discussion. Why? Because everyone talks about the weather but no one does anything about it.

Mostly I've just responded to people spouting complete falsehoods. I'm just along for the ride.

Why does it matter? Doesn't make old engines pollute less. But if you really think it matters I'm a company driver.

So basically we are saying there is more to total environmental impact than just EPA test on a new engine in a test environment. I am sure you have followed or passed truck that trying to regenerate with issues, you can about taste the fuel! The average truck with a pre-egr engine will get hands down better mileage than any EGR engine. Current emissions tests are based on hp, not actual fuel burnt. What about all the extra pollution created by just extracting, refining, and transporting the extra fuel. Don't get me started on DEF. Also, you have all the extra maintenance and parts. Have to pollute to get to work, make parts, and repair this stuff. Plus, read where most of these parts are made. Most say China or Mexico. Don't think they help the environment to much. Have to look at whole picture, not just what political driven agendas try to cram down our throats.

All of it is being worked on. It all needs to improve, and can be done at the same time.

Cost of ownership, maintenance hours, and downtime isn't even remotely close on EGR/DPF/DEF vs non. When you order a truck, the upcharge for emissions compliance is over $9,000 alone. Used to be fleets costs went #1fuel, #2 tires. Emissions/engine repairs is starting to exceed tire costs! They promise improvement, but it is yet to come. To many variables in the exhaust stream. it is a thermodynamic/chemistry project gone bad.
