"under control?" Sorry, but that is usually alcoholic speak for I am going to do a lot better job of hiding what I am really doing. It's a tough road, please don't cut corners.

If you want another driving job, you MUST go thru the FMCSAs SAP program and meet the conditions of the Return To Duty guidelines. But even going thru with the SAP program does not mean a company has to hire you. It is solely at the discretion of the company. Substance Abuse is a touchy topic in the trucking industry and makes safety departments and insurance companies nervous. And rightly so, because people who are alcoholics and who's bodies go into withdrawal after a couple hours without drinking claim to be cured after making it just a couple of days without drinking.

I'm not passing judgement because i too am an alcoholic/addict, but from everything that you've posted so far your top priority needs to be getting your disease under control before you get back behind the wheel. Just because you can white-knuckle it for a few days doesn't mean you're "cured". I'm guessing that there have been more than a few occasions where you have drank while still at work to get the shakes under control. Please get help before you kill yourself or, even worse, an innocent person. There is a solution for alcoholism, but it requires more than simply not drinking. Please find an AA meeting. When you go to see a SAP, they're gonna tell you the same thing.

Glad to hear that is your meaning. Not calling you out in particular, but us older folks have seen far too many cases of friends and family that abruptly stop some kind of addiction (alcohol, drugs, womanizing, smoking, gambling, etc.). As humans we all try to get everything back to what we perceive as normal as quick as possible. Relapse percentages are high. It is a very hard thing to do by yourself, it usually takes some kind of support system along with the personal commitment.
I truly wish you the best of luck in your future.
