Several weeks back I placed a post about a Rx problem with my Maxon radio. Anyow looks like things are back on the"go" again. Turned out to have two problems: mike and coax. Years ago when I installed the 5' fiberglass whip, I had to make a pigtail adapter for the base of the antenna to connect to the coax. Long story short, over time the insullator between the shield and the core had worn away enough so the with the temp change on a cold night, the shield and core would contact or when moving, the same thing would happen. I made another pigtail as close to the exact length of the original plus added a strain relief and things are back to perfiect with the Rx. SWR's were essentially unchanged. On the Tx side, the best I could get out of the stock mic 30-35% with little to no drive. So I replaced that one with a Cobra CA69 ( I think that's correct) and the mod went up to 95% with more drive. Anyhow thanks for the many suggestions that ws given as I belive checking the coax and the mic were two of the suggestions. I bought a Midland 1001Z in case I couldn't fix this one so I plan to peak & tune to install in my wife's vehicle. Thanks again for all the help. This is a really GREAT forum!!!!!!!!!!!:biggrin_25525:
