I am lazy no doubt about that. I been buying my own tarps for 26 years. My tarps last about 2 years as my good tarps for stuff that can't get wet without patching. Then they get moved my secondary or junk tarp that get used on stuff that is loaded/unloaded outside already rusty but require a tarp. Strapping over top stops ballooning.
Now I do make sure the ends are bungeed well so they don't sail in the wind like a flag on a pole. But here again a strap over top the tarp holding it tight to the deck helps a lot here as well.
    16x20 less than $200 and 16x27 for less than $300 every 2 or 4 years. My 16 x 27 last about 4-5 years but 16 x 20 2 years because I use it everytime.

To each their own I guess. I think it looks bad, and there’s no reason for it. Where I worked and learned how to tarp you’d get fired if the boss saw you with straps over the tarp.

Where I'm leased to we definitely have not been pulling loads out of certain shippers we used to in that area as the Chicago fleet of fuel money haulers has wiggled their way into them. Or if they do have loads on the board they are so cheap it's not even worth it.

I see guys tarping shingles a lot out of Certainteed here in NC. If the tarps flap a bit, I do not mind cause I know that load shouldn't have been tarped anyway.

The thing is I really don't care what others think.

I hauled some skidded coils yesterday, 3 stacks of them(so they fit under one 16x20) 42k. Chained them threw my canvas over then my tarp and then through a strap over front stack and back stack to keep tarp from rippling in the wind. Slitted coils can have sharp edges that can destroy a tarp with not much movement in short time.

Yes...hate it but do it :)
I was glad to do it inside ...in the morning when I went for loading it was 18f and my tarps were just piece of ice ...bit scary too standing on the 10'8" load ...only 36 wide...not much fun , but you do what you have to do :)

The tall skinny piece will always tarp better with the straps on the outside. Not every tarp job is the same.
