What i like about dipping the lights is that I think it shows the passing driver that you are paying attention and when they hit the interupt button it shows they are paying attention as they pass. Nothing worse than a passing truck that comes back into the lane ahead and leaves the opposite side turn signal on from when they pulled out to pass and no interupt to thank for the light dip, i think it just shows they are'nt paying attention as they pass. Also when i pass i usually watch the drivers side mirror to make sure i keep my truck on the edge line to give the other guy plenty of room as i pass, with just a quick glance in the passenger mirror every couple of seconds to make sure the other truck isnt crowding me. I have found that the mirror I concentrate on more is the side i will most likely drift to on occasion so i just keep my truck on the line and quickly check the passenger mirror for clearance. I only look for the light dip once i am past the truck im passing. I have pulled doubles and i sure appreciated the dip then as it can be difficult to judge sometimes at night if that second trailer is well clear, especially if your tired or its a rainy night.

i flash the brights for a very quickly. generally when they are about 20 feet in front. all your doing is lighting up the area very briefly. befo re they can get far enough to where the brights shine in there mirrors. by the time they get over they have a very good distance ahead of me.
but if it bothers you becuase your sensitive. then you shouldn't be driving. becuase some of them headlights coming from the opposite direction are much more obnoxious and will shine at you a good 2 minutes.
and most times. my seat belt won't allow me to reach forward to flash the switch on the dash. -

What happened to the days when newbs would keep their mouths shut and just try to learn everything new about whatever profession they chose?
Esp at night, it can be hard to make out distance. But you can tell when you have enough room based on the speed you scream by the other guy in the hammer lane. And its just a courtesy.
So lets just truck folks. -
Its a courtesy more than anything, it does help rainy, snowy, salt filled nights, but clear days i guess it would be unnecessary, tho..... saved my butt one night when the car tailgating me sooo slose i could not see him dove inside me, I was waiting for the flash and didnt get it, then a small car squirted thru, then the driver flashed me.... still your choice.

hit wrong button by accident sorry about the confusion;
like i have said before u can definitely tell the difference between STEERING WHEEL HOLDERS/SEAT FILLERS & TRUCK DRIVERS
blink blink
flash flash
tooo d a m n LAZY to reach for the dash -
i appreciate all the courtesy afforded to me on the road today
and the sad fact is for any driver over 50 our depth perception isnt what it was at 25
some may lie to tell you different but it just isn't so
I am sure i pull further ahead today before coming back into the other lane then i did in 1975 -
if all drivers from 10 yrs ago started out like i did; they wouldn't have made it out of the parking lot
