Flashing (no, not THAT kind!)

I do it, and get it done back to me too. Outta respect for the other driver. They know when to get back over, most of the time, but its just a way to acknowledge the bigger trucks. I drive a dually with a lil gooseneck, and I will flash small cars, big trucks, motorcycles...etc, especially late at night, or early morning. Big trucks almost always blink their lights back at me. I think its a good practice. Doesnt hurt anything at all.

In the truck I drive, Ford F350, I cant flash like the big trucks do when someone lets me in, but I cut the emergency lights on for a good 3 blinks, and then cut it off, just to say thanks.

 

A woman I conversed with, who was ticketed for this offense I believe was fined $80.00, however, hers was a definite case of warning others about a speed trap.

I haven't actually heard of a truck driver being fined for using headlights to communicate that someone has passed, but there is a law on the books in Florida that SPECIFICALLY states that no lighting on a motor vehicle shall be used as a form of communication, and that headlights are only allowed to burn on either high or low beam and steady burning at all times, or something to that effect.

I'll TRY to remember to look up the exact statute when I get time...

 

It is apparent that you characterize the category of which I speak. Many truckers express a lack of descent culture, and that my cyber comrade, I am sick of seeing because in my humble opinion, there is no excuse for it other than laziness.

Now as far as the finger thing…are you stating that you wish to have sexual relations with me? In that case perhaps I should refer to you as big buddy.

 

Okay, this is where it stops. We don't argue in these forums. It's just not going to happen. You're now both even.

That aside, when people exude an aura of superiority, it is not received with enthusiasm, as I'm sure you must understand. We have enough problems within this industry without us being at each other's throats as well. We're better than that.

You may not have meant it to be taken the way it was, but I do agree that your previous comments really seem to be a generalization that may not be a fair assessment. You're absolutely entitled to your opinion, and I am well aware that it wasn't pointed in the direction of anyone conversing in here, but drivers do get a bit sensitive when people attempt to size up others when a wide brush is used to paint a picture.

I try to keep the negativity that I may hold for fellow drivers to a minimum, unless there is good reason to not do so. I don't know too many people who chew tobacco these days, and a person with a speech impediment can hardly help that, now can he? It might have been better to have simply offered that you don't like the CB because of the crap that one has to sort through to find intelligence. I think we can all agree that there is a complete lack of that at times.

Everyone is an individual, and placing those that you don't really know into categories and sub-categories just isn't going to accomplish a thing but to incite emotions in others.

I was speaking to an Officer of the Supreme Council of the
Knights of Colombus in New Haven Connecticut who told me that
Truckers were acknowledged by them as a united front like no one as ever seen before.
I was not surprised at all to here this coming from someone who
has commited his entire life to Unity and Brotherhood.
Any one who knows the Knights of Colombus knows about their strong belief in Unity and Brotherhood.

So the next time you here someone say something negative about your
Family of Brother and Sister Truckers,just think,maybe they are having a bad day, « Forgive and go on cause really were just one big Family doin

What has happened to that very wise man? I'm starting to miss him

 

I am one that learned the proper way was to flash your lights on and off once they have cleared by a safe distance. Once vehicles became equipt with day time running lights it made it impossible for SOME of those vehicles to do this. With the 2005 Kenworth T600 I currently drive its nearly impossible to notice if I turn them off and on so I no longer participate in flashing my lights on and off. I do however use the cb and will offer the courtesy providing that I can use the company name along with the direction of travel. I exercise great caution in doing this and like some of you have stated there are those that just dont give proper clearance before changing lanes and thus the brakes come into play, along with some profane syllables.

Generally most of the drivers I signal it's clear to come back over in front of me respond, if not it's no biggie. If I am in the left lane coming up on a truck and I see he is coming up on a slower vehicle in front of him I back off and "flash" him/her to come over so they can keep their speed up especially if a uphill grade is coming up. I know they appreciate it.

im a 4 wheeler, got a 91 F150, would the "brights flashing blind me" apply to me? or were you refering to fellow rigs?

because i often flash my brights in a QUICK single flash. i have the old style high-beam switch on the floor, so my foot is faster then the hand.

in the day time i do the on/off flash. also a single blink.
