I didn't read all of this but flashing is a bad idea; instead, you shoould switch off your headlights to parking lights and back again as to not blind the driver in front of you. Do this onl when you are a couple car lenghts behind the truck that is passing you, and do not accelerate onc eyou have let him/her in.

My company only told us it was not permitted to indicate it was safe to pass on a 2 lane road with a left turn signal.

Ok call me dumb here I can handle it:drunken: . The only way I know how to flash you (I just love that) is to click my bright light on and then off, am I doing it right? Is this to long that it blinds you or any 4 wheeler? I was just taught flick the bright light on and then off, yeah I do it pretty fast (pretty fast paced person). So am I irretating you and everyone else?

Thank god some of us parents do teach the kids respect for others(I know I am teaching my daughter, 16 1/2 about what truckers go through daily) Especially going on exit ramps or curves etc! it isn't the truckers fault! :sign2:

    I'll withhold judgment there

You will make enemies doing that. Get in the habit of turning your headlights off and then back on. The reason is the truck driver may be watching the right mirror to see if he's cleared you or not, and then the high beams flash, blinding him. Not nice. How fast you do it doesn't matter.

On behalf of truckers everywhere, THANK YOU!! If only everyone were that open-minded...

I would have a problem with that Law. Flashing of Lights of warning goes further than just warning of speed traps. Wreck ahead, or some other dangers. Also I have heard many Police say the prefer people flashing of a warning of a speed trap, it slows them down, an other way to slow down traffic. But then again I have heard a Ohio State Patrol give out radio reports on his self. "Smokey Bear east bound mile marker 107, this is smokey bear". All the truckers thanked him and wished him a safe day.

Like many I did not appreciate the use of Highbeams to signal. One company I had a responce, but later decided against it. Only did it once. Had a spot light on the truck, I would have it adjusted to shine behind when traveling and when they used the high beam, I flashed it back at them. "Pay Backs" save the arguement over the CB. I pulled a flatbed with a crane on it. I would have the crane up to the front of the trailer, and the light angel to shine back over the trailer. I only did that once. Afterwards I figured why lower my self to their level?

One time a guy complain that I did not thank him by flashing my lights back over the CB. My responce why should I thank you for blinding me.. If you want to use the high beam, don't do it at all. Kinda hard to drive with all those green dots floating around in your eyes afterwards.

But after I was no longer able to drive, and a Big Truck passed me, I would still flash from my 4 wheeler to let them know, or even flash a truck I met if there was a danger ahead of them. I would get a wave of thanks from the oncoming truck for the warning.

Somewhere I read in this thread, todays times it' unsafe to do so? I beg your pradon, but I find it more need to do so. Mordern things are not always the best method. I learn that by visiting the Philippines. For an example I would wash my cloths before coming here. Still look dirty. Most here wash cloths by hand, hates the washing machine. Same pants would blind you from how clean they would be after they were washed here..

As for using the CB to tell a driver, I made it a habit to say the truck by company name or I'll try to use the type of Truck. Such as "You got me Big Pete"

    Well that's my Peso's (1/4 of a cent) worth..

Ok I guess I was trained properly by my mother and as I got older I just found it easier to do the bright lights! I now know better and I will TRY to quit as quick as possible. That will be like quit smoking "HARD" l.o.l.
Oh and I rarely do it anymore, because I heard that gangs have a night where if you flick your brights (they ride around without their headlights on) they will come after you and shoot you. I dont know how true it is; Does anyone on here know about that stuff?

HAVE A GREEEAAAAAAAATTTTT COLD NIGHT, AND IF YOU ARE ENJOYING WARM WEATHER, WELL I AM VERY VERY JEALOUS OF YOU:thumbright:

flashing lites well sometimes the newer generation out here feels that its best to flash hi beams if you do that i dont blink my markers becuz u just blinded me but turn off and on i reckonize as a nice jesture and will likewise appreciate the jesture by blinking my markers the old ways are off and on lights only to let someone know its safe to come over but high beams mean that your going to pass me so it can be mistaken you can get run over by flashing hi beams becuz you will blind that driver for one he cant see ya and now hes coming over think before you blink thanks drive safely

I just turn on the cb in my truck and tell them there clear lol. If they dont answer they porbably dont have the cb on channel 19 so i dont think about it to much. However I tend to slow down anyway if a truck is passing me i dont really feel the need to force drivers to slow down for me.
