I use both. Headlamp is great when working on something when you need both hands free. And doing pretrips at night. Also keep a good Maglite. And I buy those cheap led lights for around abuck each 10 at a time. Keep one in my toolbox and in the driver's door pocket. Also in glove box in both cars.

If you have a lot to do with unloads (tankers especially) the head lamps are beyond great

For best results, avoid flashlights that use 1.5 volt batteries and stick with flashlights that use 4.2 volt lithium batteries

They don't make very good flashlights.
I've got this one. It's very bright and the type c battery charge port is convenient. -
