If he has a 48 ft trailer closed, it has to be stretched a minimum of 12 ft. That would put the trailer length at 60ft minimum. In some states, they will allow you 60 ft without needing a permit.

A 60 ft trailer does not want to turn. He didn’t set his turn up properly. He knew it wouldn’t make it, but didn’t want to back up into the main highway, so he decided to try to pull it through the ditch. He didn’t forget.

Dragging big trailers always looks easy when you’re going straight down the highway...after all, it’s just driving, right?

It was most likely always a closed tandem, not to many spread stretches.

Tug Toy, SAR, snowman_w900 and 2 others Thank this.

    One more thing...

This one goes out to all the people who are worried about losing their job to an automated truck. This is why WE don’t worry. WE get paid for what WE know, not just what we do.

    You are correct, sir.

To make it simple, just take the length of the load, and add the number 2 to the first number. Now, we don’t know exactly the length of the trailer, but everyone on the planet will agree that it’s over 50 ft. He would need a minimum of 7 chains. 60 ft, he would need 8. Regardless of the WLL.

    RustyBolt Thanks this.

Actually, an automated truck would not make THAT mistake!
