TWIC, definately, I do not believe there is any requirement for Hazmat.

On their website it doesn't state anything about either, or. When I spoke to a recruiter she said it was not necessary, I don't get it?

I'm not a recruiter there. All I know, two years ago, when I applied, I was told that they were requiring all drivers to have it or to apply for it. I would think she has more up to date info than I have. Hopefully, she wasn't leaving out the part about having to apply for it. You might call her back and ask if you have to apply for it after you are hired. If you are able to get a TWIC or HazMat I would recommend getting the as well as your PassPort or PassPort Card. They give you more opportunity for loads. I run into Canada, every two weeks or so. I tend to avoid ports, depending on the port. We have plenty of loads coming out of the ports.

I take it you are applying as a company driver? I don't know much about that side of the company. I started out as a lease driver and then bought the truck I was in.

You wouldn't have the freedoms that I have and I don't have the security a company driver has.

ATS is an OK company, they have many long time drivers 20, 15 or 10 years. They are sticking arround for a reason.

I'm not really interested in hazmat or twic to tell you the truth. I already got my passport and that's all I am spending my money on. If they want to spend the money to have a escort I wont mind but I understand where your coming from I hate the ports.

They allow for more opportunity. A couple of hundred dollars for many thousands, that is a pretty good ROI.

In the HH fleet having your twic is a given. You will need it.
They will give you some time, but you do need it...
I just delivered another ld. to the port here in Baltimore. :(

Plus we ld. alot out of Houston area ports.
You stated you have your passport. That's a good thing also.
Now can you go to Cananda?
Just because you have a passport does not mean you can go there.

Not all ports allow escorts. Some ports have additional cards that you will need to buy in addition to the TWIC. There are some shippers who require you to have a TWIC. It isn't strictly for the ports. The military is expected to require a TWIC before long. I hated spending the money, but I lost several loads due to not having one. There are times that we do a fair amount of freight in and out of the ports. No TWIC, no freight. By the time you pay an escort you could pay for the TWIC. An escort can cost $80 or more. A TWIC costs $135 unless you have a hazmat endorsement. The TWIC is good for several years.

The TWIC was supposed to be the end all card. Now, they are talking about a different card. The TWIC is not just for truck drivers. If you work for the airlines, work at a port, work for some power plants or contractors you may be required to have a TWIC. It has been a real money maker for the government and Lockheed Martin, who does most of the background checks.
