Melton isnt a bottomfeefder, They pay descent money, even to 1st year driver, very nice people, I've been driving for about 26 years, and have been with Melton for over 2 months, and could be any happier, Money is good, and I don't have to hound them to get me home, I don't know any small guy with only a few trucks that offer the pay or benefits Melton does, Unless you just want to be able to drive 75 MPH, Find that little guy with the fast truck and starve, Heard and have even experienced it for myself, working for one of these small guys, trying to get paid, and keep telling me "OH, they haven't paid me yet", If I want to wait on my pay, I'll go back to being a O/O

I just did an application by phone with Melton Truck Lines. Tired of the lies that these companies tell you about lease purchase. I run hard, and I am safe, and I do it by the FMCSA regulations, and my PSP scores prove I drive legal and safe. I will never go back to being a lease purchase driver again. I have a little girl on the way, and I need benefits. I did a lease purchase with Colonial Freight Systems out of Knoxville, Tennessee. In 3 months, I grossed 36,000, but the majority of it went in fuel, and other hidden fees. I am not trying to flame a topic, I am just passing the awareness to other drivers. Also, do not do a lease purchase through Riverside Transport. If you run out of the Owensboro terminal. Your miles will drop, and they leave you sitting. A lease purchase driver is nothing more than a glorified company driver with no benefits.

You're right bottom feeder may have been a bit strong. They are a starter company that should be near the bottom of most peoples lists.

You do not need to start out with a low level company to get into trucking. There are other ways.

Your exactly right, because everyone wants to run for less cpm and be paid on a 1099. Comeon man get real. Why voice your opinion on a company you have never driven for? A company you really know nothing about? And then act like we are all cr England type of companies.

Just because you don't work for a starter company doesn't mean you're paid on a 1099. As far as cents per mile I wouldn't dream of running an open deck at mileage pay. Look at some of the rates right now. Percentage pay is the only way to go.

If you read up a little further I explained I was a little harsh calling them a bottom feeder.

So you just made the list of available jobs that much smaller by saying w2 and percentage pay. That is very rare for a small company so one would have a problem finding that. So furthermore I ask why you feel the need to lead on like Melton (a company you don't nor have you ever worked for) is a bad company. And why are so compelled to talk anyone out of coming here. Do you have something lined up for this guy? If so post it up so we don't have to work for "starter" companies.

I'm simply saying that you do not have to go to a starter company to become a trucker. For some reason lots of people on this site and in the industry think you need to.

I have read lots of good things about Melton and lots of bad things. If it works for you great. I believe that if you are not getting percentage pay in open deck work you're getting cheated. There again if you're ok with that good for you.

Go with gypsum express they are a great place to get your feet wet in flatbed, its good to see someone young looking to do flatbed where the hardest working truckers work rather than sitting on there butts. They have great pay and benfits and will even count in your 3months with swift toward your training. so goto there websit fill out and app and talk to a recruiter they are very knowlegeable hope this helps you out

I heard Potomac Xpress in Fairless Hills PA is looking for flatbed drivers. Seen their ad on Craigslist. Might want to try them.
