I used to average about 2400-2500 miles a week, shingles out of Chicago, bagged cement back in. Got 30% of gross, cement loads were pre tarped.

I get 37cpm, $50 minimum for tarping. But have less than a year of experience.

Tarp pay is not going to make you a lot of money. Sometimes it barely actually covers your time under adverse conditions. Companies that pay you percentage generally pay less additional tarp pay because you should be getting some of that back in the percentage of gross pay that should include an amount to cover market tarp rate.
I never felt like I was 'making money' with tarp pay to cover the time and hassle but the bit of additional exercise helped to keep the weight off. -
so 2400-2500 miles a week is pretty well a consensus then? anyone else with different numbers?

That would depend but with my understanding, 24-2600 mpw is probably a typical flatbedder average, but a lot depends on who you're with and being in IL, you're home location shouldn't hurt you at all. You should be able to secure decent hometime as well as longer hauls (more mpw) if you're willing to stay out some weekends and with a carrier that runs 48 states.

As few miles as possible. So far this week 1245 on the odometer and today ain't looking too good, it's raining and I don't feel like getting wet.
fortycalglock and Jfaulk99 Thank this. -
Sounds like a good deal. I've got a good company I plan on getting on with (BTC) and they only run this side of the Mississippi, but I'm hoping I can get a good average. They say home every weekend, but I figure it would be good experience for getting on with a bigger company like Lone Star Transportation.
