As long as you have a full set of teeth and your not squirming around like your pants are on fire they won't think you're a lizard.

How high off the ground is the deck of a TMC flatbed trailer? I know I have to be able to hoist myself onto it.

About 4.5-5 feet. At least ours are. We have aluminum trailers like TMC and I can't climb onto mine. I'm 5'7". I just walk up my steps and onto the cat walk of my truck then step up onto the trailer deck.

Hoisting ourselves up onto the trailer without a ladder is part of our orientation test. (In addition to the tarp lifting thing). I'm just under six feet tall.

Step onto a wheel, grab the rub rail and pull yourself up, step onto the tire and then the deck. Or, use the bumper as a step/ladder.

Dude, if I'm allowed to use the wheels as a step, there's no problem. It may be that they are trying to test our upper-body strength though? I'm not sure. If someone who's been through TMC's orientation could shed a little light, that would be great.

I'm good on the academic side (over-achieving nerd) and my driving is fine. Clean motor vehicle record and no criminal history. I think if I fail, it'll be on the physical part of the test.

Aha! Way simpler than I'd thought.... I can just climb up the DOT bumper. I thought I was going to have to pull myself up pommel-horse style.

Here's the link to the "essential job functions" test in orientation:
