Thanks for the info, so I should maybe go up to 8 of each size chain you think, or should I just carry 10 3/8 chains and that would be enough (not sure 5/16th are even needed, just lighter??)
As for the bugnee's I plan on keeping them in my sidebox (got lots of room for a case or two in there)
And as for the taprs, I do not really have anywhere to keep them yet. Somebody told me I can just pull out my passenger seat (never been used anyways) and keep them inside the cab. I was worried about the smell tho getting to me while sleeping or riding around.... but it would be a solution until I can save up and afford a larger enclosed cabinet style rack.
Flatbed equipment choices....

I will also get the flat-style hook on my straps, and maybe a few of each with the 2" style, and i already have a bunch of axle straps from when I hauled cars, so that will be nice to carry as well.
Need to find somewhere to work before I go spending all this money on stuff I may not need as wellBig John Thanks this. -
Need more corner protectors. Figure minimum 2 per strap. Sometimes 4.
100 21" and 50 32" bungees
3/8" rubber rope. Comes in a 200' piece. Get a pack of hooks to go with. Cut your own lengths.
Forget the 5/16" ##### chains. Go all 3/8" or maybe some 1/2" if your trailer has 10,000 lb WLL anchor points.
Forget the fancy, schmancy folding handles on the ratchet binders. Why pay extra for a useless feature?
If you'll haul coils you need 10 or 12 coil racks and 10-12 4'x4"x4" beveled hardwood and 20 metal chain/edge protectors and 10-12 3/8" rubber conveyor belt strips. Some coil bags while you're spending money!
Only 2 Oversize signs. A printer for your permits! You know what a truckstop charges for faxes?
Just one winch bar - 34"
At least 2 Ancra Porta Winches.
I get by w/o any 2" straps.
10x12 smoke tarp. Can be used for a flap also.
14 sliding winches and 16 4" straps.
A lot of guys like those olive drab canvas tarps to put under their vinyl one.
Some good 8' 4x4s can usually be gotten free off your first long steel load.
I don't even know what T-hooks are for. Something in the towing and recovery biz I think.
I never heard of ratchet binders wearing out.
A few gallons of water and some wash rags and towels to clean off after loading/unloading on a hot, dusty day. I can't get behind the wheel when I'm that filthy.SHC Thanks this. -
Im no FB Expert but this is what LST requires us to have on the truck minimum:
10 3/8th Chains (25' long)
10 Ratchet Binders (they do not allow snap binders to many drivers get hurt)
8 4" Straps
8 Portable winches
2 tarps 20x20 minimum

Ok, so I will not get the yellow fancy rachets, i am going with the Durabilt rachet-binders. So my next question is which rating should i go for???
5/16-3/8 WLL 5,400# @ $28
5/16-3/8 WLL 7,300# @ $38
3/8-1/2 WLL 9,200# @ $41
3/8-1/2 WLL 15k# @ $59 -
Thats what I'd get. Since you have no need for 5/16 chain, but if you get into allot of big equipment you'll need 1/2 chains so a binder that can do both is you best bet. As for the rateing do they make stake pockets or securment points on a trailer that can hold 15K? If not i'd say the 9200K is the best value.
Also one more thing on the binder size, if you ever haul pipe for shell you have to use their pipe racks which require you to hook your binder hook on the frame of the trailer and a 5/16 - 3/8 binder will have to small of a hook to grab the frame of your trailer.

Those are the one's I was thinking of getting as well.

Definitely get the tarps with the flaps. It makes it so much easier and quicker. I wouldn't put them in the cab with me. Those things are going to get absolutely filthy real quick.
I'd just go with the 10 3/8ths. I have some of the smaller chains for some reason, never use them. I had one 1/2 inch chain on my last truck. I'd use that one for an extra tie down on the back, just to make sure that nothing was moving if I had to slam on the brakes. It also worked well for pulling other trucks (CRST) out of the mud.SHC Thanks this. -
3 oversize signs. On front, one back, one spare. And if you can keep track of your stuff you dont need more then one binder bar.
SHC Thanks this. -
I also carry 8 flags with magnets, 6 on bungees and 6 flags on sticks. If you use magnets spend the extra couple bucks on the 90 pot magnets.
