I think it's a good idea, in someways flatbedders are more helpful, not saying others aren't though.
Try Melton, scuttle-butt around Tulsa is that they are getting ready to start hireing outa school. And if anyone can teach you how to "over sercure" they can ( really no such thing IMO) .
Only down-side I see is that you won't back up as much as someone bumping a dock. My husband backs in at T/S's as much as possible to keep "in practice", unless he is really tired. Not saying you won't back up at shippers/receivers cause you do.... We can go a month w/o backing at the s/r or every load in a month IS backing in.
My advice... their is no such thing as to many pairs of gloves.... or cloths to warm!CCJR76 Thanks this. -
I am new in trucking also and pull a skateboard. I love it. If you are loading some place and you help another guy with his straps or tarps they will help you too. Unloading is the same. I dont get in to a lot of warehouses with docks so I cant say as much about van/refer drivers but flatbedders are almost always willing to help. I pulled in to a place to drop a load of steel box beam. seen this guy pullin tarps in the heat of the day, I jumped out to help and brought him a bottle of water too cause he was sweating pretty hard. Two other guys came over to help him and then we all started on my truck.

that's how it was when i first started out all them years ago, help goes around the biggest thing to remember is if we dont help each other out who will?keeping an open mind for advice and tips will make all the difference in the world,us "old timers" arent trying to tell folks how to do there job as much as trying to make it easier for you to do your job.fr8wurx thank you for realizing that help goes a long ways in our division we enjoy meeting the new guys with that kinda attitude.

I just graduated CDL school and they lined me up with Cypress Truck Lines. I'm waiting to hear back from Cassey my recruiter to confirm if my orientation is going to be on Monday Feb 18. Check out there website. They pay $100 a day for orientation and load securement training. Starting pay on the road is .34 cents a mile for student drivers and up to .40 cents with experience.
CCJR76 and Nordic Light Thank this. -
