They haul some pipe for the gas wells I hear. Grave, if your over on I99 why don't you apply to CLI to haul gasoline for sheetz?

Ronald Gross inc and Wayne W Sell are both looking for regional flatbedders around here.

Les is right, dont bank on the miles and you will figure out where frieght is good and bad fast. You gotta have your head in this game if you want to succeed. So far you got the driving part down but there is tons more and yes there will be all kinds of things to nickel and dime you especially when you are first starting. Find a good acct this will be invaluable to you at the end of the year and during. Tax preparers fees are a write off and a good acct will keep you on track each month. He/she should be able to tell you how much you need to spend (for write offs) so you arent paying the tax man that money instead.

It's not really banking, that mileage gives me a baseline. At 2k miles per week I know I need this much per mile, if over 2k miles per week the cost per mile goes down, if under 2k miles per week the cost goes up. Just saying $1.30/mile is break even is incorrect if I only do 1k miles in a week. That number will be much higher.

My cousin has her masters in accounting. She has been doing my business accounting for years and she has a few 0/0 drivers she plans for so I should be covered for accounting.

Why figure miles per week to make money?
You have fixed costs for the trk. and then your personal bills.
Then divide it by 4. That is your fixed costs per week.
Then you figure you need to make X amount of dollars a week just to break even..
Flat bedding ussaully pays percentage not milege...
    Just my 3 stang thoughts

You need to figure fuel in there somewhere and fuel cost is based on miles driven. (pulling numbers out of my butt) if a load pays $2,000, you get 75% of that load it pays you $1,500. Will you take that load not knowing how many miles it is? If that load is 800 miles with a 200 mile deadhead that load turns into a $1.50/mile load, knowing your costs average out to $1.30/mile you will profit $.20/mile, not a very good load. I don't see how you can figure this easily without taking mileage into account somewhere. Then you gotta figure in delivery time, if this is a 1,000 mile load with a 4 day delivery time that leaves you 3 days in the week to make up for the bad load.

Not saying your way is wrong, or right, just different. You can probably look at a load and in your head know if it's a good load. That comes with experience. Without experience a person needs a different way to figure a loads value to them. Everyone will have their own way of doing things and what works right for some may not work for others. But knowing different ways to do something will make a person more flexible in the long run so while I may not think something is best for me, that doesn't mean I don't want to know it. Knowledge is power.

Check in on Ooida's Load board. If you want to get your own freight why not get your own authority and do it all yourself. I did it three years back and have never been happier. Only all the paperwork is tiresome.
