I use to look at girls. Now I spend evenings getting all excited about trailers!

So, this trailer looks like it can do a lot. Beaver tail with ramps that convert to a flat step down or with levelers to a single level flat deck. It seems like this would just about do it all. As usual I could be thinking wrong on this?

I've been looking a lot at load pictures etc. I know it is about what makes money, but the loads seem a lot more interesting on the drop decks. Maybe more securement challenges (which is kind of up my alley) - also, maybe less tarping than the flat decks? tarping doesn't sound like it will be one of my favorite activities.

This is my first picture to post - my apologies if it doesn't work. In case it doesn't, here is the link to the ad I got it from. http://www.truckpaper.com/listingsdetail/detail.aspx?OHID=4198993 beavertail.jpg

That's a nice trailer. Has the limitations of a step-deck that I mentioned earlier and it looks longer than what I'd want to maneuver around, but still nice.

53' trailers also have the benefit of the real estate to give you truckload AND ltl (less than load) freight at the same time, case in point, took 2x20' containers (truckload) detroit to chicago, paid well enough on it's own, then grabbed 6 pallets as well on the way pick up and on the way drop off, never hit gross, but needed every inch that 53' gave me, the second (pallets) didnt really pay well enough to haul on its own, BUT was ALL profit, as the containers paid all expenses on their own

did the same kind of thing the next week except on a much longer run, south bend IN to price Utah, picked up a few pallets as well as my main load, it paid half as much, only took it half the total distance but the first run barely scraped by on paying for itself (fuel, maintenance, taxes etc) and the second became the profit.

LTL is NOT something i prefer, BUT it's better than only scraping by :p
