Not sure whether this is true since I don't do it, but a past friend told me that SLC is a dead spot for step deck too as well. He said it should start getting better though with business booming in Utah and there are so many trucking companies and other businesses moving into Utah.

I'm not so convinced that it's a "dead" spot, as much as the long established large carriers have most everything sewn up.
-
Yeah. You've got Knight/Swift terminal there. Even before they were officially joined when I started with Swift years ago, they were haulling other carriers trailers in and out of SLC, so now that they're combined, you've got everthiing sewn up with regards flat/van/reefer. Don't forget, that the HQ of C.R. England which can double as van as well. It's pretty much the middle of the country Hub for mega truck companies, either HQ or terminal.Speed_Drums, TooTiredToTalk and Dave_in_AZ Thank this.

The one problem with van freight is the supply of goods. Example the baby formulae shortages.
CAXPT Thanks this. -
your little cascadia is really no different than anything the mega flatbed carriers are doing

Due to length laws here, for years we pulled trains with tractors that were 225”wb single bunks if you wanted a conventional. Even with deep pin settings for a deck we could put a foot or so over the front and still turn without tearing the trays off the headboard. For the east coast US back in the day you were in a cab over no more than 160”wb to pull 45’s with shallow pins and we got it done with those trucks.Speed_Drums and CAXPT Thank this.
