Do your homework, over estimate every expense and see if you can still make it work, make sure you have a good maintenance fund and PM program you follow, consider an aero-body truck (10% savings in fuel economy translates to roughly $10K extra in your pocket/year), remember the driver accounts for roughly 30% of your fuel economy (that's a nice raise for yourself if you drive it right), and work smarter not harder.

Leasing on somewhere, authority, whats your business model?

Living in Miami is probably the worst place in the US for flatbed loads...

I would wait a couple of yrs and get more driving time under your belt..i would also wait to see how the freight rates are going to be... leasing on to a company to start is a better idea then trying to get your own authority and book your own loads...having 40 grand may seem like alot but reality is its not...JMO but i would wait it out for a bit to see where the industry goes...

Whatever you decide DC21, the absolute best advice I can give you is to keep your overhead as low as humanly possible. That goes for all aspects, truck, equipment, insurance, etc.

I was ready when I was 22 as well. I'm 23 now and I'm still swimming through the paperwork.

Good luck, figure out what you're doing, over-save, and under-spend. You could easily blow through $40k before you make a thin dime in your rig, and still be $10k short of making any money.

You will most likely not find any insurance companies to insure you due to age, no prior experience and the area you live in. It will cost u more for insurance if you find it than what u will make all year.
