All of our drivers run in the same areas and are compared to each other. All drivers have bunk heaters for the winter. All drivers are allowed to idle within reason during the summer. We discuss ways to reduce idle time with drivers that are consistently higher than the rest of their peers. I don't even know what a CPAP machine is, but will assume it has something to do with sleep apnea. I am not sure what was said in my post that deserved such animosity. I feel that I would truly be a brainless owner if I did not put effort into controlling costs. I think more truckers from fleet owners to independent contractors would be well served to try to control their cost. I am willing to bet if I measured the idle time of my independent contractors they would beat my company trucks...when you are paying the fuel bill you look at ways to save & if you don't you go broke.

Yeah, the vp at my last company said something like that. His trucks had the power cut, were limited to 65, and he liked to complain about the fleet average being only 6.3 or lower while praising the O/O's there for doing so much better. Meanwhile, the independents were hot rodding, idling, running 70-75, getting there in time to grab more loads, and averaging 7.4 or better.
Care of equipment aside, cause there's no excuse for not taking care of it, I wouldn't go out of my way to get a new truck. I'd much rather spend $20-30k on my old truck then drop $80-100k on a new hunk of EPA gutted plastic. -
Interesting week...15 trucks to Baltimore, couple to NY, etc...all had reloads before they got empty...great job Rhonda! Now we are coasting into the Holiday. Looking like all trucks will be in the yard by 5PM on Friday. I have to say I am looking forward to putting the Holidays behind and running full throttle in 2012. The first 2 quarters are always a lot of fun.

Glad to see someone actually CARE about getting their men home and with their families over the Christmas holiday. Personally, I am off from the 23rd of Dec through Jan 4th. Best wishes for you and yours in 2012

Things are going great. It is Mid January and we haven't been below zero yet. In fact, very few days below 32 for the high. No snow. Unbelievably good weather.
I am sure it is nothing like where you are. Hopefully that hammock is comfy. Enjoy the time off & stay in touch. -
Yes I'm enjoying the time. Last year well 2010 sucked and did'nt make it home.
Enjoying my time now. The wife and I are going to the beach Wens. for a few days.
Good to see the family and the houses.
Flooding did not hit us to hard. Lost a bunch of fish from the ponds, but everybody safe and houses not hurt. -
I have been kicking around a way to getting into heavy haul. I think I would prefer to find some good o/ops with trailers. I would like to be able to go up to 100K lbs. Thoughts or suggestions?
