Flatbed shipments only travle North

the trains bring the lumber to Tn and within a days out and back there are more than 10 yellow pine mills. Also chipboard osb plywood and most other products. The south has a lot of building materials. If you really follow wood other than pine it comes on trains to your city wearever that may be. If you have an ocean port you will find some more there.

 

I haven't driven for TMC for over a year, but when I did it went just like your describing every thing going north. They ran me on a triangle too. N.c, VA, MD north to CT, RI, MA west to western PA or NY, OH, IN and back down south.

 

Remember those load boards only show loads that they are having trouble covering. Getting a truck to go south from the Mid-Atlantic is easier than getting one to go to the North-East, so you only see the loads they need a unit for. Southern truckloads never show on the board.
Also, like someone said, fewer lumber yards in North, so more lumber shipped into that area.

I Hauled from Balt to Sea for years and then ety to Spokane-Chi-Lafayette IN to SEA-SPO-CHI-Balt. We had 45 drop loads paying $40/drop to all the little backyard contractors in Seattle.

From Northern VA to Massachusetts, you have a huge and very dense population. They suck up a huge amount of resources. Speaking specifically about lumber this comes either from the Southeast US or Canada. I am sure there are lots of carriers hauling from the Southeast to the Mid Atlantic and Northeast that would like loads back to the Southeast. I am sure that large carriers are willing to move this at a low rate. In addition, they just don't make that much in the area that ships out of the area.

In regards to loads from NC/SC to the Southeast, they have similar lumber production in Georgia that they do in NC. They ship from NC up to the Mid Atlantic & Northeast. They use the mill in GA to supply the Southeast.

 

It might have something to do with resources and laws...

 

2 wks ago I got a load of 2 X 4's out of new Hampshire to Greensboro nc. They were stamped made in Maine.
