another thing no one bothered to mention.
4 x 4 wood. 8 feet long. quantity 6. -
did anybody say beveled wood for coils or did i miss it?
-
Thanks all. Reason I didn't mention the straps was trailer I bought had straps but looks like I will have to add some more. Also, trailer has a box so was adding second box and didn't order the chain rack. Figured I would see if they are needed and thought of a couple cheaper options.
Also didn't mention wood and ladder as I would be getting at hardware store. Winch bar was on the order.
Did the over kill on bungees. I have seen so many different ways to do it that for how little they cost in bulk it would be cheaper to over buy now than running into TS latter.
Dave, I have only seen two loads that use the rope and what I saw was sloppy. So until I see it done right I wanted to go with what is known to me.
Light weight coil racks happen to be the name from the website that I pulled the list from.
Ended up with three piece lumber tarp because of weight of each tarp. 2 locations near me will not allow fork lifts to help. So if alone then 70lbs is better than 100+lbs.
So in the end I need to get more straps (trailer as 12) and a couple more chains.
BTW, all the places I shopped online listed 25' but had to order them. 20' was the longest.
Thanks again all. -
The bungees they sell at the TS are sheyat....
-
don' tknow about the beveled wood. the two loads i hauled mailed there own wood.
as far as time goes. doesn't matter how long it takes to wind up your straps. the receiver will still be unloading by the time your done and put away. and it's not exactly like you're getting reloaded IMMEDIATELY afterwards anyways. so there's really no hurry.Last edited: Jul 16, 2011

The "Wood" is "Dunnage".....
Either 4" X 4" X 8' or 4" X 6" X 8'....... -
Tarpstop sells bungees that are made in the USA. When I got my sidekit I used them and only have broken 2 in the last 2 years and they have been in the weather every day since day one. Those made over seas bungees wont last a year and are not in use 24/7 like mine are.
Also make #### sure your tarps vinyl is made in the USA or at least Canada. I bought a set of steel tarps from a tarp maker in Ala once for a good price and the first trip out the tarp started age cracking. After hauling 2 loads it looked 10years old and was useless.
Good luck with them china made coil racks and a 45000 pound coil. Make your own coil racks out of 1/4 thick 4 inch wide steel, make at least 4 for 2 coil loads. Any more than that get the beginner racks out for the middle coils. -
3 peace lumber tarps will be a pain. i woulda got 2 25 footers.
if it were me. i'd also get 2 25 footers with 3ft drops. for them steel hauls. cause 8ft drops will also be a pain when you load only sits 1ft high.
a 50 foot steel tarp is heavy. and any 50 ft tarp is also a pain in da butt to roll back up.
dunnage. couln't think of the word. i only thought of the wood becuase i picked up 60ft rebar yesterday. LOL. but didn't reread the posts to see if it was mentioned.
excuse the ignorance here. but i don't have any coil racks. never heard of them till this thread. what are they used for?
i've only hauled 2 loads of coils. and they nailed wood to my trailer for those loads.
i hauled a 3rd load. but that load stood up. instead of laying sideways. and i used my dunnage with chains and binders for the wood on that load.
like i stated earlier. you want your truck and trailer light. weighing no more then 31,500 with full fuel. cuz i've had loads close to 49,000 pouinds. anything over 48,500 and your going to have to do some math on your fuel to keep it under 80,000 when you hit that first scale house.
i've had one load that came in at 50,000. i just got fueled up so i came in at 81,500. that load had to be overweight permited. and stopping at every scale house is no fun. i prefer to just roll on through.Last edited: Jul 16, 2011
