I'm giving the Yokohama RY023 all position tires a shot on my rear axle right now. The thicker shoulders seem like a great idea for high scrub, but the tread is a bit deep for a trailer tire, so there might be stability issues. They're on the heavy side, too, pushing 124lbs new.
I had a bandag recap with a zigzag pattern I really liked that I picked up used at a love's a few years ago for $100 with about 40% tread. I got about 80k miles out of it, and probably could have done 120k on it if a ply in the sidewall hadn't broken.

Yes, I had my old drives capped for the trailer. Have 41,000 on them now and look good. I hope to get 80,000 out of them. I pull a flatbed with spread axle so trailer tires take a beating.SMTatham Thanks this.

The zig zag pattern bandag recap was probably a btl-sa where I use to work ran them o regular van trailers that get spun around all the time in the yard and behind walmart and sears stores delivering auto batteries always loaded for the most part

Good to know. There was a bandag stamp on it, and the tire tech recognized it as a retread they offered, but he only slapped tires on, so he had no idea what it was called.

They hold up well in that situation and I would imagine they'd do well on a spread axle that is actually there intended application. But have never had any experience with them on a spread

It might have just been a fluke tire. I've switched to all virgins for now, but if most of that style cap performs that well, then I might be getting these casings recapped. It's a no-nonsense tread that doesn't pick up stones or crumble in parking lots.

I ordered the new Michelin X Line Energy T, compared to the 560 it has 37% less rolling resistance. That's a hell of a lot.
