Another question... if all of the securement point on the trailer( stake pockets, chain pockets, etc) are 6k lbs or less. At least the last trailer I looked at the manufacturer specifications. Then what is the logic for grade 80 3/8" or higher rated chain equipment?
The highest rating of an assembly is the lowest rated piece. So even with a 12k chain, and a 12k binder, the weakest link would be the chain running through the trailer at 6k.... right?

Yes. Now consider double drops and RGNs, which will have different WLLs.

So there really is no point in having less higher rated equipment, rather than twice as many grade 70 5/16" equipment? On a standard flat or single drop....

All depends on the job. Buy what you need to do the work you intend it for.

Just wanted to give you guys an update.
About a month and a half ago I bought a 2013 step deck. Didnt have the money for an all aluminum, and I got a decent deal on a combo.
Been running for about 3 weeks now, and this heffer is heavy... lol
I can only get 44k before I'm closing in on my 80k. However, my mpg is up around 1, to 6.5mpg. I'm running shorter miles, and loving the exercise. Icing on the cake is the cool things I get to haul. Securement is easy so far, haven't tarped yet(ones I got with the trailer were trash), but everything is going well.

I have noticed how little the majority of the brokers care or know about this side of the industry. I get quoted all the time 1.50 to 1.80 a mile, and it's hard not to laugh... when does the peak seasons usually run? IMG_20190508_224131_975.jpg

You get the step freight figured out, you will like it, They are heavier, BUT you will make more hauling lighter freight anyway. I, even on my flat I seldom ever took max loads, steel, lumber etc was to cheap and I hated dealing with a steel mill, period.
I had risers for my step, so I could haul some stuff, but eventually quit carrying them, unless I was on a pipe haul.
The last several years I ran down there I did not even carry tarps for the most part, just didn't take any freight that required them, I did carry a couple of smaller ones, smoke tarps actually, but they had enough d rings to work with some ltl stuff that had small items that needed tarped.

I have a w9 similar to yours, white and 310 inch, but flat top and rigged a bit different, great trucks.

This year is sucking hind tit. Should have already picked up. Settle in it’s going to be slow for a while. Too many people jumped in thinking it was big money. Now there are too many trucks.

I figured as much. I dont think they're thought it was big money. I think more people are getting tired of being micromanaged at large companies.lets be clear 60mph trucks arent for safety, they are so you can legally cap maximum money a worker can make in any given day.
I'm good, I'll sit for a day, no issues at all. I'll be danged if I'm going to run for 1.50a mile.

    PoleCrusher and ChevyCam Thank this.
