Anyone on here pulling flat with a Volvo 780? Would there be a problem pulling 46000 lbs with a 10500 lbs 48' flat? I know they are a bit heavy, but currently pull a van and no experience with flat. TIA

    Consider these things
    Wheelbase
    Kingpin setting of the trailer
How much room you have between the sleeper and the 5th wheel

Trailer would have a 30" kingpin inset, looking at a Volvo with a 233" wheelbase, and a 579 80" sleeper with a 235" wheelbase. Sticking with van for now, but also keeping my options open for flatbed.

Unfortunately, those are the only options I have. Would that wheelbase cause scaling or clearance issues?

There will be issues with the front overhang. You will need the wheelbase.

If you are the one paying the bills, you ALWAYS have other options. If dead set on a Volvo, I'd want a walk in midroof, 244 or longer wb, minimum 500 HP NON VOLVO engine. If I am paying the bills, I will get what I want, or I walk. I want it owner operator spec, with 22 gauges on the dash, no idiot lights. There is a reason why owner operator spec'd trucks come with gauges and mega fleet company trucks come with idiots lights. Do not pay money for an idiot spec'd truck.

I'm leased on to Schneider and lease my trucks through SFI. I agree with you 100%, unfortunately I don't have the $30k+ I'd need to spec one straight from the manufacturer, so I'm kind of stuck with what they offer..they require EPA2010 or newer and I'm not to fond of buying a used emissions truck. I'm doing well over here, but my current lease is up in Oct and I'm going to need another truck, and I am considering going over to Mercer in the Spring to try out flatbed.
