There are companies that run enclosed crane trailers. I ran one years ago for North American that could lift 8000 lbs off of the ground and run it all the way to the front of the trailer. Pretty sure ATS runs some crane trailers. Landstar too..

I've seen tarp-topped dry-van trailers... Watsontown Trucking in PA runs some around. Also seen tarp-topped containers down around the ports. Additionally, there are flatbed trailers available with zero arch, though they aren't common unless someone makes a business of hauling lightweight stuff. Some of the carriers serving insulation manufacturers run 'em... seen Fontaine steel and Dorsey...

06' fontaine velocity 48'x102" (has optioned aluminum floor instead of wood). All four air bags replaced last summer (with Hendrickson OEM), entire brake system replaced June of 18', including new swivel connections and field kits with hoses from bulk head to brake chambers MGM chambers, euclid brake components. All virgin rubber 60% or better. Aluminum outer steel (all replaced) inners. Only things it needs, paint has rust, and landing gear. It's been sitting since March, I'm not using it anymore. Pulls straight, rides perfect. If I had a need for it I'd keep it. Located just north of Cincinnati.jamespmack, PoleCrusher, Tug Toy and 1 other person Thank this.

Ok thanks, little older than what I'm looking for. But I can forward info to anyone interested.PoleCrusher, cke, Tug Toy and 2 others Thank this. -
Most outside beam trailers were flat, steel or combo.
kylefitzy Thanks this. -
That's true, and you still see those running around hauling hay and other ag products. I wonder if a set of double flat pups would work for the op?

Any manufacturer that makes custom trailers will build you a flat one. Just have to order it. Load rating will be lower, but they will be happy to take your money.
Examples of manufacturers that would build you one (or many) are:
Benson/Transcraft
Doonan
Mac
Wilson
and the list goes on. -
I got the feeling right out of the gate this “customer” wants specialized equipment on demand for the lowest possible rate with 0 capital outlay. Better yet they want the guy with the capital outlay to wait 30 ( Bussiness ) days to get paid.
They are not investing in a specially trailer. Just wants to know what terminology to use to demand what they want while keeping rate as cheap as humanly possible. -
Oh, in this case let them put their crap right onthe floor and pull with a rope. Should be flat enough.
-
Because that's how they've always done it. Get with the program Mack. They cant let the driver do his job. Hes not "qualified" to haul their freight.cke Thanks this.
