It's all about getting the rates to your "break even point" and that can done by averaging the loads out. And everyone's B.E.P. is different.

The haz-mat loads that I saw/heard about from other drivers paying "good" were "government" loads and they were from a select few approved by the government....
Most of the high dollar loads I know about/seen posted are great at first glance, but then you have to deadhead a lot more miles than you'd want to make it work. That's probably the number one reason why they pay well, because they go to bfe and there's nothing back out for a load.

I went with primes flatbed lease. Was the biggest mistake I have made in trucking. Even if you go company what kind of flatbed outfit makes the company drivers buy all the securing equiptment and tarps?:biggrin_2554:

Heck we specialize in oilfield hauling, and our rates are allways $3 +++++++. Most of the time it comes in around $4.50 average.

You are right you gotta love OIL, for the most part we are not doing as bad because of the economy as some places, because of oil.

I not saying everything is peachy, but oil does tend to sheild Lousiana, and Texas somewhat.

In an other life I worked for a contractor who had emergency response units for leaks and damages. I made a load money chasing leaks up and down SO-CAL, especially after the Northridge earthquake.
Oil companies spare no expense when it comes to repairs...
Oil is $$$$$ and nobody would leave $$$$$$ on the ground would they? :yes2557:
