I was told that the 14L could be turned up to 575 hp. Would that help it fuel economy?

I always like big horse. But I detest engines that require turning up or turning down or nerfing, boosting or wrenching to get big horse or small horse. I hate it.

I prefer engines that have and will give you ALL the horse there is when you put on the floor that hammer today. So if you got a 500'er and that is what is there for you then have at it. If you wanted more you don't turn up that 500, you sold it and shoehorned a 600 CAT or 650 Cummins or something I think those engines start at 25K. Each.

Turning a engine up to me makes me shudder because you are asking a engine block to hold more stress and load on it. It's never going to be enough. And wear out faster.

Buying or installing a engine Rated for what you need already full bore without none of the turning up business and foolishness is your best bet. The more horse you have the less work you need.

I remember pulling townhill which was 4 miles long at 288 cummins, big cam 4 at 21 mph, I did the same hill at the same weight at 42 mph in a 350 mack CH model and later in the 1995 essentially at the speed limit if not somewhat slower becuause there is horses under that hood. REAL horses above 500. None of this chicken #### 400, 350 or whatever. (No offense)

The more horses you have, the less fuel you burn an hour to do a work at cruise. It will help you in Kansas and Nebraska when the headwinds blow against you so you can lean into it and stay in top gear and not to downshift as would be a crappy small horse engine.

Finally big horse will pay it's money when you are confronted with a 24% grade, You cannot be on something like that with a #### 400 engine. It would just burn up. I did one with a 350 CAT and it took 4 hours for all of those needles in my dash to return to normal after that three mile pull at less than walking pace.

Was kinda leaning toward the 120. It's a one owner that was taken care of, but the classic, well it's a classic, lol, and I know the pre-egr 14 is a sought after motor, just don't know much about it.

Don't get hung up on the name plate or chrome.

It's classic fine. It's classic. Big deal same with the 120. The thing is Ive rolled a 120 and am biased towards it.

But if you love the classic then go for it. It's your truck, you are the one that will be investing your life into it. I cannot do much other than offer a little bit of something to your thinking such as Alumium wheels. Ive always hated trucks with steel wheels they wont scale worth a #### once loaded by bonehead shippers.. ugh.

I've drove both classic and 120's in the past. I like both. The 120 is more maneuverable for sure, and a much more comfortable ride than today's bubble trucks (just my opinion, I know I'm going to hear about that comment. Lol). The classic is nice on the open road but you will cuss it when you find yourself in a tight spot.
I'll be the first to tell you Schneider doesn't mind putting you in some tight spots from time to time. Lol

Hopefully u can lease on with your older truck. I know a couple of lease drrivers who have been there awhile. The choice program is becoming quite popular and the rates r dropping.

Yeah, that's the big talk around Schneider too. That's why I'm wanting to buy an older truck. Just makes more sense to me financially.

Honestly get the fld. It's 10k cheaper and 10k can cover a lot of maintenance. Also, the fld will be cheaper to run over the long run. The classic looks better, but the fld makes more buisness sense.
