Hi, I'm new here but I recently bought a truck, its an '89 FLD120 set back axle with a 13spd and a Big Cam 3 Cummins. This truck will mainly be used on the farm, but I had some questions.

First of all I got this truck for dirt cheap because the guy tipped it on its side when he took a corner too short with a loaded grain trailer. I found a good used cab and I am going to start on this project sometime by pulling off the sleeper and cab and just make it a day cab.

I started this thread just to get some general information about certain things along this project, and im going to start with the hood. The hood has a crack in it, and I've never really liked the look of the fld120sba hood anyways. I am wondering if I can fit a hood and bumper off of a FLD120SD set back axle on to my FLD120.

Heres the pictures of the two different style hoods.

    FLD120SD, hood style I want

FLD120, same hood style as the truck I have

Input would be appreciated, and I also have some other questions, jut. want to get started with this one.

You are going to find the sleeper on a FLD 120 is one unit with the forward cab. Saw it off and fabricate a complete back wall.

Mine is actually a non-integrated. A lot like the FLC freights. I just have a cut out on the back of the cab that opens up to the sleeper. Not many trucks made like this, but I can get a plate to block the cut out.

It’s just person preference. I like having a cleaned up rig, especially after driving a lot of pos trucks. If I’m going it own it, i want it how I want it I guess. It’s probably going to get some body work done to it, and since the hood is cracked, I thought if it’s easy enough, I’ll just put the style hood on it that I like.

Anyways, I was looking online and found a side picture of one of the Heavy Spec trucks, and I think the rear/lower (not sure what it’s technical term is) part of the good, which makes up the back of the wheel well, is one piece riveted into the cab. I guess someone would call it the front quarter panel maybe? Not sure but here’s a pic:

I can’t 100% tell if it’s riveted in or if it’s separate, but I’m pretty sure it’s riveted in. If it is, what does it take to remove the rivets and then put that panel onto my cab?

    Input would be appreciated, thanks.
