Fleet Air Filter what's your thoughts?

I have used them for roughly 6 years and I like them. If they increase fuel economy it is minimal, but definitely flow more air than paper filters judging by the sound of the turbo. It really doesn’t take many years to break even with the cost of traditional filters. Not much involved with cleaning and re-oiling.

 

I do think they work well. Just not the right filter for me.

Challenges for me:

Cleaning while on the road after operating in a very dusty environment. Couple of times I either stripped off the outer layer to get air flow back and hoped for the best. Couple of times I got a paper filter to get me through till I could clean the Fleet filter.

Cleaning at home. I hate messing with the truck while on "home time". Scheduling myself to do this maintenance while I was on home time was problematic.

 

I take them home and do them when it’s convenient. I kept the paper filters to use temporarily just in case I don’t get them done, but it really doesn’t take much time.

 

I'm a fan of fleet air filters. They pay for themselves within a year as most engine filters are $100 each.
With that said I won't run it in my T680 it's a horrible design and the filter tends to fall down letting dirt in engine.

 

This is the outer layer after 6 months of use. I work in a very clean environment so twice a year cleaning is enough. The inner layer was reasonably dirty but the middle and outer layers looked like they hadn’t been used. I cleaned them at the truck today since it was a nice day and they air dried in 30 minutes or so.

 

This is all you need to know... when this filter dusts your engine, they are only liable for the cost of the filter. Call them and ask what the micron rating for their filters are.

 

Maybe you can explain your thoughts further? I am under the impression that the presence of clean on the outside of the filter means clean air is going in the motor. I am not trying to be sarcastic, but looking for you to explain further.

 

This filter raised my silica levels on all the test truck with them. Went back to factory type filters.
