I have vowed to never drive an automatic transmission again even if I lose all my teeth due to no dental insurance offered through a company that has manual transmissions in their fleet.
If you're happy driving what your average automatic truck is you don't to know how to drive a stick, if you ever want to get in someplace with nice trucks, 379s, 389s, w9s, nice rigs, you're going to need to know how to drive a manual.
This is an important consideration for me right now. I'm researching what companies I may apply to for my first driving job. I really like a lot of the thing's that I'm hearing about Schneider but they're switching over to all automatics. I don't even like automatics in my personal vehicles.
I have driven both in my career. I don’t mind either one. I’ve had autoshifts, ultrashifts, and idrives. 9, 10, super10, & 13spds. Most of what has been said in this thread about automatics is just ego. All the auto’s i’ve driven could be manipulated to do what you needed done. *having to manipulate them also probably meant you were in a situation you shouldn’t have been in. <<<just sayin. I could go either way and would not dicount a solid job offer because “they’re sn auto only fleet”. It would be rather stupid to let my ego have that much control. I’m even half tempted to put an auto in my next truck. Imagine what people will say when they see a 389 with an auto. Lmao
Schneider all auto Swift all auto Maverick all auto Rohel switching to all auto The list is ENDLESS....Manuals are OLD technology almost dead. Don't listen to old washed up super truckers who take a shower once a week and use the bathroom in a bucket in their truck - which is what A LOT of the people who post here ARE!!!
Quite the generalization don’t you think? Making assumptions about people you’ve never met and pigeonholing them. How do those automatics work out when the batteries are cooked or the starter isn’t working? Would it be fair to say the other posters on here are rookie know nothings with no mechanical skill that need GPS for everything? @wore out i don’t care if you can pin time a B model or rebuild the AFRC, from now on, since you only shower once a week I am discounting what you say. @snowman_w900 i don’t care if you know how to shim the pinion gear on your own truck, if you aren’t using a breakdown app, you’re a dinosaur!!! Interesting. would you mind explaining how the Eaton 18 speed auto shift RTLO18918A-AS3 differs from the Eaton RTLO18918B manual transmission? I'd really like you input here. You seem to be the resident expert and proficient in designing and building transmissions, Can you explain what the advantages are in the low inertia design in RTLO series transmissions versus a standard RT series transmission? Wait, you do know what an Eaton transmission is, don't you? Or do you just call it a go thingy that's connected to the go pedal? Wow, do you wear a track suit or just regular sweat pants?
