When pulling my flip back over with the truck,I would back the flip on a curb or block to help on the Angle.
Makes it alot easier, and put a rolled up tarp on the deck to cushion the fall.

Had to flip mine up in a Missouri scale once. He didn't like the fact I was running with my fourth axle down. He was all gunho about calling his buddy that owned a wrecker service. I had it flipped and chained before his buddy showed up. Got out of that situation scott free.

When your talking about flipping the axle up with the truck... You are unhooking from the trailer, backing the truck alongside, and chaining from the truck to the flip. Either backing up on a curb, or stacking blocks for the chain to get some height, correct?

haulhand: Trying to picture what you did with the 8 foot 4x4... Standing up on end on the ground? heh can't think of how else you did it, but think the likelihood of it actually staying upright when the chain starts to move would make me grit my teeth and cross my fingers!

I unhook neck from trailer and pull a foot ahead then run the only 3 3/8 chains I have from neck to the rear D - rings I have on dot bumper air up bags on flip to give it that little bit of break over point then pull ahead. With a thud the axle is flipped. I don't recommend doing it all the time, just in those situations where you have no choice.

Remembering back it was an oak 8x8 8 foot long. Yes I stood it on end right at the end of the trailer, I got as tight as I could and as the flip axle raised up to flip the 8x8 fell over. It's kind of hard to explain and I was worried the first time but it worked really well. Your results may vary and I don't recommend doing anything your not comfortable with.

That is pretty handy knowledge right there. I never even thought about it. We had a 6,500 lb capacity fork lift at work and that is what I used to help the driver. He was trying to roll it back over to his trailer, he left it at our shop for a week as he was returning with the same load a week after he left with it, and I finally convinced him that we could use another chain and make a third contact point on it and just lift it up and carry the whole axle assembly back over to his trailer. At that time I had a boom extension on the fork lift which was a nice addition to this task. When it came time to boom it over he told me that it will be very rough landing. Either I am that smooth of an operator (which I doubt) or that boom extension made it easy cause it went over nice and controlled. I would hate to imagine it without something like that and the noise it would make.

I flip mine in the yard with the big forklift or onsite with a wheeloader if I have one around using the forks. I put the forks under the tires, lift up, drive forward tipping the forks and then setting it down. I can flip it up or down the same way, it makes a nice soft landing either way.
