It is hard on the equipment, but a couple of times I had to flip it myself, getting it down is easy part, getting it to start the flip up always makes me nervous of a chain breaking and coming back through the windshield. If I am unloading a big scraper or dump truck I'll use that to pull my flip up as I unload it. Had a concrete paver to unload and that was only thing there so had to hook chains to my tow hooks on truck and give a couple good tugs to get it to move, not a fan of that way.

    281ric Thanks this.

I use the truck to flip it.
just lay down a rolled tarp to absorb the impact on the deck..

Golly as Gomer Pyle would say,, Had 2 flip axle trailers, went to harbor freight and bought a $500 12,000 electric winch,,mounted it in the goose neck,,,,
dropped the air in the trailer,,pumped air in to the flip,,used the wench to pull the axle over,,to put it down I hooked the winch cable onto the flip ,use the tractor to pull the fip back down with the cable holding the flip about 3 ft off the gorund,,then used the winch to lower the rest of the way to the ground,,I have done the same with a load using a snatch block $16 from the side of the trailer.
works great,,I get a lot of looks when I do it but I can flip up or down anywhere and also use the winch to pull some loads on the trailer.. when running empty I use the winch to secure the flip up.no chaining the flip.

Same principle as when wreckers roll cars and truck, Get a 6X6 cut a "V" notch in the top stand it on end drape your chain over the 6by and hook one end to the flip and one to either a whinch , truck or machine it will pick the axle up as well has help it flip and yes as it flip the 6by will pull out its suppose to. next time I do it I'll get some pixs

I carry a bottle jack and come-a-long. Works great to get the flip neck and/or axle to break past center and crank it over.

    skootertrashr6 and 281ric Thank this.

years ago with my first RGN I used the tractor to flip the axle down,,I pumped some air in the flip axle air bags and when the flip hit the ground all the tail lights popped out,,,learning experience,
my 12,000 winch in the goose neck works great,,everyone has their favorite way,,just shows that you can get the job done on your own,,American will!
