Floating gears

    On my cdl test I asked how many points I get off if I don't use the clutch thy told me 2 points so I told him then give me the 2 points and off we went
    But that was like 12 years ago

    People float because its easier than using the clutch.... that's the only reason.

    That's pretty ignorant... People float gears because it's less wear on the clutch and transmission if you do it right. Every time you engage and disengage the clutch it takes some material off the clutch. If you don't use it as you're driving then you're not wearing it out. You can however cause excessive wear to the transmission hard parts if you don't do it correctly.

    Floating gears might seem easier, yes, but if you don't know how to RPM match the engine to each gear then you're not going to find it easier at all. In that case it would be easier to double clutch.
