I'm also considering Landstar as well. I was approved with them last year but I didn't go (I feel like kicking myself for that). I resubmitted my application last night. I spoke to one of the Intermodal agents yesterday and he really didn't give me any numbers as far as rates were concerned but he did say everything he had was regional and local. He also mentioned about Chinese New Year and the ports slowing down for a bit.

With the $58, you pick up AND drop off at yard?

I've had a few live loads that I have dropped at the drop yard and someone else takes them to the port.

He didn't give you the rates because they're disgustingly low for most intermodal work. Somewhere in .90 to 1.10 cpm not including a pathetic fuel surcharge of about .08 to .18 percent. Intermodal is only really good for those who want to be home often. Think in terms of hourly versus miles. What's your time worth to you? What would you want to be paid per hour and how much revenue do you want your truck to earn? They're the types of things to keep in mind when shopping around.

That makes sense. Thanks! I like the idea of being home more often, especially since I want to help and spend more time with my grandkids. I just don't want to starve for the sake of being home more often.
