Where in West Florida? West Coast is pretty big and different areas, anywhere south of Tampa on the West Florida coast completely does not exist.
Tampa has outbound manufacturing, Lakeland and Orlando. Do not believe everything you read on the internet buy I know for a fact Florida has good rates in state and out, but you will have to work for it and get in outside of the brokers with sticky fingers. All the good rates brokers or large companies never see because the freight is well protected.

New Line Transport might be a place to check in to, they do flatbed and most of it is intrastate, I believe they are somehow tied in to Tri-State carriers. Also try Florida Premier Turf out of Sarasota, when I hauled sod I ran with a lot of their owner ops and they all seemed pretty happy with them, heavy loads though. I believe most of them hauled for the produce harvest as well when that was in season. There are options, you might just have to look for them.

For what it is worth I am a 3d generation Florida Driver--was an o/o for 31 years--Now I left Florida for other reasons than business(wife health issues)ANYWAY--I have LOTS of contacts etc--I can load all year in Fl--BUT--the rates suck--Now can you live there--yes--can you make a living--yes--is it worth it? Up to you--
BUT--the last 3 trucks I owned(while still in Fla)were titled in Fl--base plated in Fla--and NEVER entered the state! LOL
Crazy as it may sound I ran with the same broker/buyer--out of MN--ran LTL to the NW--2 rounds-then one to the East Coast--and after 18-22 days--parked the truck--and flew home for a few days--seems crazy I know but we did very well--and if it wasn't for other issues--probably still e doing it--something to consider..

Hello,
I read your post on here and noticed you have a lot of input about florida trucking. I was planning on moving to florida with my family, and my wife is getting a job there also. Im an owner operator and was wondering if you know who hires O/O in south florida. Any info would be greatly appreciated. My email is vesp25@aol.com -

I live and work here in Fl. / parked my truck earlier this year and driving for someone else testing the water out. has been good for me so far. their's a certain niche I found/fell into within the state and rates seen to be ok.
