The first day of cdl school, start submitting applications from the trucking company you prefer to work for.
No phone calls; submit the applications from the websites. You can call later after the application is submitted. Call and and say, "I'm checking on my driving job application."

You can call and ask for a pre-hire letter. Some companies give those.
Not sure Stevens has a pet policy, better ask about that.
