Well i am happy to see it is not just me getting pulled in when m t, I know in Md. they are set up on the computer so if they don't get any overweight trucks for a while the computer will pull you in at random, you don't get out of there without a fine.
-
RM, perhaps you are thinking this is a pre-pass issue here? It is not. In Florida, once a truck enters the coop, it crosses a scale strip and then it comes down to two options - The truck gets the green overhead street light (not in dash light) directing it away from the static and continues at 45 mph back out onto the big road....or....the truck gets the overhead green light directing it to the static scale.
Most drivers believe if they enter the coop empty, they will automaticaly get the 45 mph bypass. Not so, nessesarly.
I do not have pre-pass and obviously I always have to enter the coop (they never close) and at times while empty I've been pulled in as well as gotten the bypass, same with grossing 70-75,000. No ryme, no reason, except for the fact that they can set the random percentage at whatever they wish for trucks to maintain 45 and go, or pull into the static.
If you yourself were talking about pre-pass, then I could go along with what you wrote, but like I said earlier we were discussing the "why" and "how come" options that take place for the trucks that have entered the scale. -
I do not have prepass either. Neither do the others I am talking about.
It is what happens as you go down the line.
I should note that I haul rv's commercially. We enter the scales and in no way are we even close to any axle weight. Sometimes, we get the rolling bypass, sometimes we have to get on the static scale. I am sure at 18,000 total weight, it must be the reason, NOT. -
Hey roadmedic. just wondering how you think they can tell what company you drive for and find the safety score and have time to trip the light in the 10-15 sec it takes to go down the ramp to the scales. If you can answer that i might belive what you are saying to be true.

I was moved from the passing lane over to the slow scale. They then held me on the scale for a very brief period. Then I was required to park and bring in all papers.
While inside, the cameras were going and you could read the signs on the trucks.
I asked him about it and noticed the name of the company I drove for was on one of the screens with a flashing statement, saying must inspect.
He stated he read the side of the truck on the way in and the name triggered the watch list. The watch list is a short listing of the companies they look for. -
I'd love to see the guy that can read them name on the side of a truck as it passes buy at 45 mph on a 13" tv
. or r you saying that the cameras are some how hooked into a computer that reads the names and runs them through a database that trips the bypass lights? -
also i used to work for a company that has lots of gravel trucks. They would get overwieghts on a daily basis and other equipment fines.I hauled flatbed for them and in the two years i worked there i was never pulled into the static lane of a scale huse nor was i ever inspected. Now i dont know what the rating was on that company but im sure in wasnt very good. It was Dan welch trucking out of fairfield ohio maybe you can find the rating i dont know how.But if your theroy was true i would think they would have been looking at me in the scales,But what do i know I'm just a dumb truck driver!

There is a list and they can read the name on the truck in some cases.
If they have any doubt, they call the truck in.
In addition to this, they also have the random set up. It can be every 5 trucks then whatever.
I personally do not believe they can read the entire name, but a bit of it. They also can recognize the wording, say Swift on the top etc. -
OK I'm with you on that I find it very hard to believe they can read the name except maybe the major carriers like swift JB ect....I think it is more random then anything.
