    Wow. $20,000??
I wonder how many times he did it!!
There’s no way to take on that much, unless you’ve got a tanker!
That’s definitely a few thousand gallons!
Florida Man is going to be tasting some Old Dominion justice!!

It said he did it 6 times. So he must’ve had something rigged up with a tank that was 1000 gallon or so.

True. But it didn’t say he was in a truck. Could’ve been a service truck with a tank in the back. And really, nobody inside is really going to notice how long someone is sitting at a pump.

When a guy shows up taking 1000 gallons someone will notice, especially security cameras start looking for something abnormal.

Article said he tampered with the mechanism that shows how many gallons are pumped, so they probably didn’t know it was him at the time. I would think though, the first time the amount of gallons you sold, didn’t hold out with the amount of gallons you had truckedin, It would be pretty easy to see there was something major going wrong.

I’m guessing they started watching because their tank readings weren’t jiving with their sales. It said he tampered with the meters on the pump. I doubt the people working even noticed.

the truck stop could have also assumed after an inventory, that they had a leaking underground tank, or the system.

i ran a service station decades ago, so of course we had steel tanks back then. i had to "stick" the tanks daily to coincide with the gallons served.

come to find out we did have a leaking tank. leaks can occur anywhere in the piping too, not just the actual tank.

if i recall here in my state, all "filling stations" must have tank leak testing monthly...this can vary from state to state.

They have truck pumps at this location. Now I’m curious what he had set up. I guess it’s not too far fetched to think someone could have a collapsible bladder inside a trailer when they’re empty. Or maybe some totes. Or maybe he just had 4 big tanks on his truck. At first I was thinking maybe he had a way to store fuel up in VA somewhere but now I’m wondering if he was packing it all on his truck. My curiosity leaves me wanting more details. Lol
