Well this trip so far has been a complete worthless fuel milage try. I started out in KCMO and got a load to WA at 35K and hit wind from hell from Right before SD. Was steady 20-25 mile winds for a full day. Then hit more wind the next day going all the way to MT. I think I was at a 6.5 or something like that at the time.

Finally got a good day driving in mountains. It cleared up from Billings to Missoula and averaged 8.9 only to hit more wind. Most of it was 10-15 mph and I made it around Seattle area with a whopping 7.4 MPG. What a disappointment since it had great potential on if not for the wind. Then took a load going to TX and will be heading back to KCMO from that area. I have hit wind all day yesterday and today heading through the mountains to Fort Worth area. This leg so far is at a whopping 7.1 but will gain now I am finally on I40 now and have about 650 miles left to drive. This load is 38500.

Load going to Kansas City MO is going to be 25K I think if I remember correctly. It should be better if I can ever get out of this #### wind. I swear no matter what way I drive on this trip I am driving into the wind and up mountains. ha ha

It won't ever run again. I think it'd be foolish to sink the kind of money it's going to take to fix a 24 year old truck. That's #### near the downpayment on a new one.

Well no reason to worry about it I guess if it cost that much. Might as well order you a new one and get put on a list somewhere. Glad you are still in the game regardless.

Well I made it to deliver this load in TX and Managed to get back to a 7.5MPG on this trip from WA. Also I am at 7.5 MPG for the whole trip so far. Today was the only day that it did not blow wind from hell it seemed like. I bet I got close to 10 MPG since this morning to here. Hopeful will have some decent results for tomorrow load.

On a side note I figured I would run out of hours before I took this last load home and I did. Gonna have a little over 2 hours left tomorrow and it is about an 8 hour drive. Luckily I get my hours back at midnight. Unlucky because stupid rules will make me have to drive at night for no reason other than rules. I would rather drive in the day when I am fresh since I can hardly sleep during the day. UGGGGGGG FFFFFFING REGS SUCK!!!!!!!! When it comes to common sense.

I need time to save up the money because I wouldn't do it any other way. It might not even happen if interest rates keep ticking up. I like my situation now because I'm not paying any of the truck expenses. Of course it's a pay cut but I'm making solid money booking/negotiating my own loads from brokers just like I've always done. Easy trucking really, nothing to it.

Always can wait till next year when a lot of newer trucks will be for sale at a good price as well. If putting in an order for new just remember it is a year out still on most trucks. I am sure you know that.

Yeah but I would expect that waiting time on new trucks to dwindle down to nothing with the way the economy seems headed. I'll need a couple of years to have a substantial down payment anyway.

I doubt they come down to much on time. Think about it. A lot of Big fleets put stuff on hold during covid. Then they could only order so many this year and now they are just getting the orders in before the new EPA laws kick in. So I would think next year it will be about the same thing until 24 I think.

I'm not in a hurry. The trucking industry will still be there. It's like I've told newbs on here wanting to buy their first truck, don't do it a shoestring.

A little off topic but here's why I dont let shade tree or independent shops touch my $40,000+ truck engine.... I bought this truck from a friend who will use them and he wouldn't have been happy had he known they did this at the time when they rolled bearings into it about 4 years ago.

Anyways, when I had my CAT the only people allowed to touch the engine was Thompson CAT. With my Detroit Clarke Power Service was my go to. You may save money at some cut rate shop but more often than not they will monkey around and do BS like was discovered below with my engine when they had a look with the oil pan off. Apologies to the independent mechanics on here who do good work and stand by it. I've just never seen any of that around where I live who do. Besides Thompson or Clarke who are well worth their hourly rate imo.
