I had an FLD112/48”, for 2yrs. That thing wasn’t anywhere near the ride or truck of the FLD120/70” I had the next 2yrs. And, the power. Whew! What a difference between a 11.1L Cummins and a 12.7L Detroit. I loved that truck, but, was forced into a Century, which was an absolute POS, in every way.
Well finished this load up at 8 MPG running 70 MPH or speed limits back home. Averaged a whopping 7.5 MPG for the trip. Have a load set for tomorrow going back to NY and then one going to PA. Booth are in the 25K area so will see if this trip makes anything decent for MPG's. I should not have to be in a hurry hopefully as long as don't get held at shipper.
Ha Ha not a chance in hell will I ever go back to old. It cost basically the same as before when all is said and done. If I had spec'd the new truck a little better it would had been less. Of course you already know that information. On another note that shop that was suppose to order my rocket tail I think they was just lying to me. So I am gonna look into talking to Utility and see what they have for trailer tails. I need to bring the trailer to them anyways at some point in time to fix the beams on the roof as they came unglued a while back ago.
Have you looked into the OptiFlow nose fairings for the trailer? Supposedly, they’re one of the biggest improvements one can add. And, what about the Flow Below setup for the trailer?
I have not looked them up since I do not have much space between trailer and truck. I am gonna get the Wheel covers for the trailer but not the full set up from Flow below.
The nose fairings run inside the truck’s fairings, so there shouldn’t be any clearance issues. Basically, they allow for a cushion of air to form between the truck and trailer, which improves airflow across the gap. Without nose fairings, it’s just turbulence across that gap, because air is free to flow through there. I’d like to build something like the Iveco, but, on a conventional platform. Penske was doing that, some years ago. They had some really cool looking stuff, back then.
I am not sure they even make them anymore. Looked at website and they only show tail and skirt now. Pretty neat looking idea.
They don't work. We found ZERO difference with them in closed loop testing. Plus they just don't work - 6 months in and all three had been repaired multiple times. I'd say the same for the trailer tail, but on a one truck/trailer operation I think they'd hold up better and be used more frequently.
