Well this load delivers in the morning early at 6 AM. I am a couple miles from drop off and was shocked I got 8.4 MPG's on this load. Got stuck in some construction work for almost an hour long. Dang near messed up my drop for tomorrow but I have a few extra minutes to make it in the morning. This load was 43K from MA to MO and I drove 70 MPH or speed limit the whole time.
Seems this trailer aero I added is doing its job better than I expected. I do have some aero mud flaps I got with the trailer Aero kit that I need to put on the truck still. The trailer already has them on it but they came with that purchase. So I will add those on it sometime soon. Still no word on the lift axle but not really to worried about it just yet.
I did find a load back to MO from WI and I think it is a lighter load of 11K. Since I am gonna have to make up some time that is a good thing. My 70 should be enough to make that delivery and then back home to park. Gonna see if anything worth going out on Monday. Need to get my butt in gear and try and work some more this summer.
Next load is picking up a bout 10 miles from my drop off so not much dead head on it. I believe it will be 40K on that one so not that good of MPG's since I will need to do speed limit again.

Well a little update on this load. Mo to WI doing 70 most of the way here and a lot of wind the first part of the day. It was a very consistent wind all through MO and a lot of IL. I ended up with 8.5 MPG's again and trip is setting at 8.5 as well.
I will have to dead head about 100 miles to pick up the next load. I believe that load is 11K but again will be fighting my clock so will need to do speed limit. Good news is I have just enough hours to get delivered and get truck back home for the weekend. Still nothing for next week but looking still.
I feel pretty good about the trailer aero added so far. I think it has made a decent difference but not enough information gathered yet.Constant Learner and ducnut Thank this. -
Well delivered that load from WI to MO and ended up at 8.6 MPG's. A lot of wind and rain going through Iowa and MO to get back. Total trip overall was 8.5 MPG's. Not to bad considering I ran hard 90 percent of the trip and did not try at all to save on fuel. Speed and time was my main goal. I ended up with 3 minutes left on my 70. I think I cut it just a little to close!
On another note I dropped the trailer off to get the lift axle installed. Hopefully it will at least do what I think it can do without killing the tires. Will find out soon enough. Hope to have trailer back before end of next week to go out.86scotty, Constant Learner and ducnut Thank this. -
Takes about half a day for them to install. Once they get to it of course. I think of all the big craters and washboard roads everywhere I run. You're not gonna be happy when you see big scuff marks half way around your tires. I was running thru Louisville northbound on 65 the other day ago. Just before the 264 east exit splits off there's this big sinking crater in one of the lanes about 8 inches deep. I think about every bridge joint across the i840 nashville bypass in Tennessee that when you cross them doing 65 mph your head hits the ceiling of the truck nearly. Lots of subpar bridge joints and interstates overall in Tennessee. It didn't used to be that way. These are just the ones I remember. They're everywhere in every state. I remember going to China about 5 years ago and was impressed how well maintained their interstates and secondaries are. We're 3rd world by comparison. It's a shame the communists have better infrastructure than we do.

They said they would try and get me in right away but might be Tuesday at the latest. So will have trailer back by Thursday at the latest is my hope.ducnut Thanks this. -
From what I experienced with 3" of lift it didn't really take a washboard road to scuff the tires up. But there are a lot of really bad roads out there and those places will really #### up your tires. Practically every bridge joint you cross you're gonna scuff tires. None of them are perfectly smooth and 3" aint enough lift.

It won’t really do any damage to the tires, they scuff a little and then spin, they won’t be dragging across the pavement. The only time I don’t like our lift axles is in high winds. The trailer doesn’t seem as stable.

LongFLD, your trailers have smartlift axles? They lift about 5" that's a big difference from 3". There's a reason nobody adds them and Hendrickson recommends not to. I never lifted mine again after a few trips seeing what it did.

Put a tape measure on one and post it up. Curious how high they lift.
