This right here is spot on with me as well. By the time I spent on maintenance and the crappy fuel MPG's I break even with a payment. Add in the tax write off and longer oil changes and it is making me more money. I am sure not everyone has to pay 20-25K a year on a older truck to keep it going but in my experience I did.

Well this load will be delivered tomorrow morning. Load was from MO to UT and then to WA. From Mo to UT I ran into a lot of wind for about 500 miles. Ended up being 8.6 MPG's and I was around 10K I believe. Found out that they loaded trailer wrong when I got to get unloaded at first stop. Had to let them remove everything out of the trailer to get the stuff off truck and then reload me. This almost happened last time but I caught it on the paperwork. How they list stuff there is no way to know what is what since it is the same company on each end.
So when they got everything loaded back up I think I am around 7K now. From Ut to WA I am at 10.1 MPG's ad total is 9.2 MPG's for the whole trip. I went ahead and booked a load from WA to MT knowing most likely I will dead head home afterwords. It is 20K and depends on how it is loaded I might be able to lift axle. Not a big deal either way as I can go as slow as I want since it will not deliver until Friday. I have an DR Appt on the 7th so I might take all next week off.ducnut, Magoo1968, Constant Learner and 1 other person Thank this. -
So lift axle was up on this load going from WA to MT. Had to drive up the 20 plus mile mountain out of Seattle and load was 15500. Ended up with 9.4 MPG's so not too bad. Total MPG's at that time was still at 9.2 MPGs for total trip.
Had a heavy load booked to go home from MT but got canceled on Thursday at 6 PM. Well of course I was in a bad area and not much at all to choose from. I did not have enough hours to make the delivers and then be able to get back home for the 4th. So I made the decision to haul some nice fresh Montana air back to MO. So far I am in SD and have drove 650 miles today at 10.4 MPG's. Total so far for this trip is 9.4 MPG's and have about 550 miles left for tomorrow to get back home for the 4th.ducnut, Constant Learner and RedForeman Thank this. -
So finished the trip at 9.5 MPG's for all miles. Was 10.2 from MT to MO empty. Will see what comes on the next trip.
ducnut and Constant Learner Thank this. -
Well booked a load for Monday since I was not sure if I was suppose to be going to Dr appt Friday. DR Appt got pushed for a few weeks because of insurance issues of course. ( Last Steroid Shot in Back) so now I am debating on finding a load going out and coming right back for this week. Not sure on if I will just take it off or not.
Anyways the load booked is 11.5K and has two drops on it. Different than the last couple I have taken out and different company all together as well. It will drop off in Comia CA on first drop and then to OR on last drop. Both drops are late at night so not gonna be a fun trip in my eyes so it is what it is I guess.ducnut, Constant Learner and Long FLD Thank this. -
It was a tough week for me. Left home last Sunday going west, then they canceled a load on me going back east when I was in Montana. I decided to drive 500+ miles south of Salt Lake City to pick up a cheap load going east. At the end when I've returned home this afternoon, I drove almost 4000 miles for only 6K. I've had only 40 minutes left on my 70 hours clock.Siinman Thanks this. -
Constant Learner Thanks this.
