I will be 48 end of the year. I still know pretty much all the tech stuff that goes into what I did before although I would have to refresh a little bit on AutoCad and learn a little more in Solid Works programming. The rest is all hand tools and knowledge how to run production. Sure the CNC's machines are better now and have more sensors on them but nothing hard to learn.
People would be the biggest challenge for me at this time. If I could not do trucking anymore on my own I would prob start a small cabinet company or small construction business. I always loved working with my hands doing wood work and building different stuff. Here is the last couple projects I did before getting into trucking. The one of the Flag is my Dad's WW2 metals and stuff from his 25 years of service in the Navy. The deck was nothing when I started on it and is down in the Lake of Ozarks. The Kitchen and flooring was done in an 3M house in the high end of KCMO. Was all fun stuff I did after I left the Oilfield.

I got burnt out on it after a while as I did this kind of stuff for almost 20 years. Was hard to find people that are willing to work hard with you to get stuff done fast enough to make it worth it. I ended up doing almost all those two jobs by myself. The owner loved them all but was not living in the home when doing it so was not in a big rush to get it done. The dock was fun to do as I got to stay in the lake house a good part of the summer and use all the toys. Was well worth the time doing that one. The owner would come out and help a few days a week or so on some stuff. We ended up staining all of the shake shingles on the home as well. That was a big project all by itself. First house was the one with all the kitchen done and the second one is the one at the Lake.Short Fuse EOD, Sons Hero, 77fib77 and 2 others Thank this. -
Here is the latest fuel MPG's for the last 30,60,90 and life time by paper. Not too bad and have not really tried to push the MPG's as much here lately.
77fib77, ducnut and gentleroger Thank this. -
Man, that's a lot of beautiful work! FYI your pictures double and triple posted if you care.
I have some other talents too but I don't want to run a business using those talents. A trucking business is the only one, so far, that I actually like running.
And I can do the stuff I consider fun when I'm off the road. I like this balance, honestly.
My new 860 isn't getting the mileage yours is. I'm seeing mostly 7.5 running light loads. Pretty frustrating. -
Do you happen to have the read outs on all of your parameters settings? If so I can or if not I can show you what mine are set at if you have same set up as me. I cant remember if yours is set the same way on spec's. D13 500 HP with 2.79 is what mine is. Running light I can get in the 9's and 10's sometimes if I take it easy.
This trip so far was 9.7 Mpgs 17K with a 3 drop from MO to Al, GA and NC. Dead head a few miles and for next load to GA with 4 drop load at 24K one drop in PA and three drops in Northern NY. 9 MPG's. Have a short load today going from NY to NY and than need to find something. -
I struggle with the doing what you love for work, burnt out on that running a bait shop once, didn't fish the whole time I was running it except for the pond on the property, after I sold the bait shop out it took me two years to even want to fish again. Same thing with wood working made log furniture and other misc stuff at one time to, I might get back to that again and just turn out projects that I like and sell them as individual pieces, to make some side cash. This is my kitchen table that I actually did for a lady that ended up not liking the live edge then tried to take it and not pay for it. Had one try the same thing with a walnut live edge and a trestle style bottom but ended up collecting from them at their house

That table got rejected because it had a knot that turned into a hole, that we turned into a waterfall feature, with resin and dye with rocks placed in the waterfall feature, every one else that has seen it thinks it's pretty cool, but the lady who originally wanted it when she saw it in slab form, flipped out, so whatever it is now my kitchen table and I like it
-
My next project will be the oaks that we had to take out of the yard after oak wilt, and turning them into tables for my patio and deck, waiting for a guy with a portable mill, since I don't have access to one anymore and prices have gotten out of hand now
Siinman Thanks this.
