Can anyone here recommend good settings for this 3406E. Its a 99 model set at 550 (supposedly), was factory 475, til overhaul awhile back. Plan on having trim codes changed to probably 5232. Local shop can do this for me. He wasn't yet sure if he can change the other settings though. Anyone know if the same service tool will allow changing both?
Also, had installed the fuel temp harness and noticed improvements as most others have noted. As every load I haul is different (stepdeck), direct comparisons are tough to do. Noticeable power increase and fuel mileage increase (estimated) of .35 or better though. Cool! Plan on installing this different under bunk muffler before changing codes to get a comparison on that too. One change at a time.
Any help on codes is appreciated. Thank you veddy much!

If he does'nt have ET like the dealers do he can't change fuel settings, and if he does he still needs passwords. However there is people that can do that, but they are hard to find. While you are changing injector codes see what the other numbers are set at.
-
Thanks! Far as I know the tool he has is able to check for codes, change basic settings like governed speed, cruise settings, etc. and change trim codes for when injectors are changed. I will note current trim codes when making the change. Any potential harm in changing trim codes without changing the fls/ fts?
Thanks again -
Is there a different password for every truck or just a main one that will work for any truck? I'm guessing these passwords are set from cat when they are put together?

It does not hurt anything to change just the injector trim codes to 5232, 6999 is better(10hp more). And as far as the passwords in the ecm, they are always different, say you change one protected setting with passwords and want to change another one,it takes new passwords.
The good news is you can change injector trim codes with just about any service tool.
-
how do you find what trim codes you have and what ones you want?
-
You need a diag tool like a pro-link and it tells you right there what the injector codes are
-
The injector code can be viewed with a service tool connected to the ecm,or by pulling the valve covers. The code is a 4 digit number stamped on the injector. As far as what codes you want,6999 on all of them works better than the stock ones, but results vary according to the numbers already on the injectors.
