They start looking to park when their drive clock reaches 10:58.

They give you a hard time for parking far away because you are walking proof they are lazy. Every time they block a drive way to get a barrel of cola and a candy bar they tell themself it's an emergency or a necessity or "just this once".

Antisocial for a reason outside the store. Im nice enough but that Colt under the holster is a big part of it. I simply do not need or want any contact with strangers without a clear purpose. Back home in baltimore it is very common to try and distract the chosen victim prior to vicious attack with something so outragous like Can you adjust my Costy bag? that usually creates a endless wtf loop in the victim's mind as the jaw works open and shut struggling to come up with something polite. They stand there then come under attack.

Here in the South people are NICE. But... the one or two bad ones are nice as a ruse. Fortunately in the small town everyone knows everyone.

Ive seen some stuff in the rest areas out there, Momouth NJ comes to mind. As does west Ok City. among other places. It's just depraved human at it's worst. Im just happy not to have to deal with it.

It does embarrass me very deeply as a personal insult when unwashed man arrives in orientation on monday and promptly evacs the company van due to body odor for god knows how long between showers and a shave plus bugs about his person. Ive questioned my own dedication and patriosm at those times.

Get off the banker hours and none off this is a problem.
I get a legal parking place at big truck stops 99 percent
Of the time. I don't do rest area's or exit ramps.

I also hit the road at 2am so I'm done right after lunch.
Front row parking,no wait for showers.
When there piling in at 6 pm I've already eaten, showered,
    And laying in bed.

If your going to the northeast back it up a couple hours so your ending your day at 9 or 10 am.

Once they hit 10:58 they send a message to dispatch stating hey I need a safe haven can't find parking.

I'll chime in here. as a green driver I suck at backing into a spot. bump a dock? sure I can do that but I'll admit once I'm in a truck stop the nerves get me a little and I soI wont try for the one spot you find with a chromed 379 on either end. so my solution? I tried to end as early as posible. I'm not a morning person but if it helps me get a spot I can actually get the rig intonice and safe without causing damage with letting me choose between choices instead of welp here's a spot? then that's what you do. so I just started nice and early and the absolute latest I was shift in down was 4pm. haven't had an issue. I was in a legal spot. sometimes I got a good spot too.

So basicly, if you want a sad story, I'll send you a nude pic. park legally.

That is no way to run a truck, Usually im eyeballing a place to camp for the night at 2 hours prior to quitting time. Once in a while for morale purposes we will quit that early and park somewhere NICE. Away from the Petro for once.

So....one should start looking to shutdown an hour before? Is this the golden rule for the savvy truckers? I have to admit, OTR is out of the question. Having second thoughts on regional.

Seems some drivers work in a very sheltered, dependable and consistent work environment. Good for you.

But you need to realize there are a lot of us who work around very disparate and tight schedules meeting mandatory appointments at all hours of the day. Often having to flip our work schedule and bumping our 70 each and every day for multiple days, and trying to get parked after an 02:00 appointment. Some times we have NO CHOICE but to try and get parked after 22:00. Then factor in winter weather that packs truck stops much earlier.

Yes. Some drivers do not manage their time well. But I can assure you that for many who park late and in "overflow parking", they had no choice.
