Well... mostly because I like electronic gadgets. And when I hook it to my meter, it helps me to learn what happens to an antenna when you add or subtract inductance or capacitance, just by turning a knob.

I know one thing for sure, I need a bigger supply of batteries for my AA-54. It eats them like candy.

Well I get that makes sense now

As for the aa unit, I went to li-on batteries for them -18650 with an internal regulator/charger/boaster. Have yet to buy any batteries since then.

Hot glue... works slick as ####. No drilling holes and no damage to the plastic dash or the radio. Want to put it somewhere else? Carefully peel it up and go again.

I would not recommend mounting it overhead with hot glue. It does come unstuck and needs to be redone every once in a while.

As a matter of fact, I didn't like the way the mic cord on the Cobra hung in front of the N4... peeled 'er up and set it at an angle, glued it back down.

I use Velcro. I'll post photos later. Easy to remove radio and meter for theft protection and to swap out all my radios. A little red-neck but it works for me.

My theft protection is the camera mounted near the center post in the windshield. I leave it up and running on my phone the whole time I'm away from my truck. If my dog so much as makes a peep, I look at the screen. If someone were to get in my truck, they better hope they can run really ####### fast.

My humble install. No drilling. Just Velcro for the radio and swr meter. I use an external speaker. All of my radios have Velcro on the bottom so I can swap them out very quickly. And on hot summer days I remove them from the dash so they don't have to take the abuse.

What type of Velcro you using, I had issues with the fuzzy type when I used on top dash placements, had to go to heavy duty (barely get it off with a crow bar) stuff to make it stay.

I'll look tomorrow. It was some generic brand I got at a gas station that carried very low tier CB radio accessories. About a month after installing, they seem very strong but they do not require a crowbar to remove equipment. I'm in the greater Chicago area so there's been plenty of sunlight and heat as well as cold to test the adhesives.
