I was told by a Michigan Motor Carrier Enforcement Officer the fines go to operate the public library where the ticket was written.??????

Most of this is common sense stuff, and some of it not bad.
The bad: 1. Speed limiters
2. Elimination of self insurance
3. The E-Log mandate
The not-so-bad
1. Making sleep apnea guidelines straight
2. Insulin dependent drivers being able to drive without seeking an exemption
3. Safety Fitness Determinations
The Good
1. Reverting the restart provision
2. Guidelines for actual driver training
3. Prohibition of Cohersion
I think some people are really not reading into this. The first three, I get. They are trying to put more government controls on the drivers. The middle three have some benefits to the drivers. The last three are all good in my book.b l a c k b e a r d and double yellow Thank this. -
the Europe trucking regs brought to the us by the same fools who brought traffic circles.
In 1997 I was invited with 8 other hand picked drivers to meet with the top guys at the FMCSA outside Washington dc,,was an all day discussion group going over new and proposed regs, even met the head of the FMCSA George Reagle and his other top people,,the second in command told me that he thought that all motor carriers should be audited every year because he knew all truckers were breaking the law. He also told me all the people at FMCSA had CDLs,,when they get hired or transferred to FMCSA they are sent to a driving school to get CDLs so they know all about being a truck driver,,True Fact!
In Europe all trucks have speed limiters (50MPH Max Speed) and on board recorders and can only work 50 hours/week.These EU rules have been in effect for many many years.
Get used to it,,most truck drivers DON'T VOTEsemi retired semi driver Thanks this. -
50 hour work week....
Cruising at 50....
That sounds like bliss.
The whole CPM system is hypocritical to any company that emphasizes safety.
Why isn't that on their list -.- -
Don't worry 'bout it.
It'll be at least 20 years before they get all that in effect.
-
I would hope you are right about that but I seriously doubt it. We stand a better chance with an administration that is not so much for bigger and bigger government. I'm 68 now, if you are right and it takes 20 years maybe I will have stopped driving by then.

Drivers, we are our own worst enemies. Fight the very changes that bring hope to ending sweat shops on wheels. Guess what? Drivers in Europe 50 mph and 50 hours a week probably out earn our 100-hour/week OTR drivers by a country mile. And much longer vacations.
Time to end OTR drivers having to put up 2 work years (2,000 hours to 'standard' work year) to make one year pay.
Kicking, scratching, screaming and resisting pulled/pushed into a better life!
The carriers will adjust and toilet paper will go up a couple cents. Big deal.Mr.X Thanks this. -
What's that???

By the "industry"? I don't think so. Maybe by a handful of mega-carriers in an effort to prevent the competition (aka everybody else in "the industry") from doing something (running the speed limit) that they refuse to allow their own drivers to do. ANY truck owner can set the speed limiter on their own trucks to wherever they want it...and a driver SHOULD be able to limit their own speed with their right foot...and the States have already determined what the "safe & legal" speed on the roads within the state is when they set the speed limit. "THE INDUSTRY" fought long & hard to ELIMINATE the unsafe speed differential between cars and trucks by working to remove split speed limits in the states that had them.
Mega-carrier propagandist speak for "It won't cost us a dime because we've already chosen to saddle ourselves with that expense. Now we want to FORCE our competition to run under our business model, unnecessarily increasing their expenses so that they will be unable to compete since they aren't yet big enough to receive the same discounts on services that we enjoy."
Regulations should never force the unnecessary. They should never be used to tip the playing field to any one party's advantage. If a company sees a benefit to running e-logs, limiting speeds, and whatever else they choose to do, it is their prerogative to do so. If another company prefers paper logs, running the speed limit, etc, then that is their right to do so.jason6541 Thanks this.
