If a person can have their insurance on their phone, why not their CDL on their phone?
The home state can text/email the virtual CDL to the persons phone, as he stands at the DMV office, and do away with all of the paperwork.

It says greater or equal to. How is it not equal to? It's simply waiting on a piece of plastic to arrive in the mail. How does having that piece of plastic or not make it worse safety wise?

I posted above, if megas train for 90 days then allow a new hire to go out on his own, then why are they advocating to allow a new graduate who doesn’t have any experience to hit the road alone?

    That’s the difference.

First, they don't train for 90 days. They train for 50 hours then team for a set number of hours. (At least Swift did when I was there). Of that time the training consists of mostly how to use their system and how to do HOS. Backing is also a point. So again, how is it less safe to wait for a piece of plastic?

Once again the piece of plastic doesn’t make a difference, it’s the lack of a responsible CDL holder to train that person. Isn’t that part of their reasoning? For a newbie to drive back to his home state without a cdl holder in the truck under load so that he can take care of his paperwork. This means after paperwork is done I doubt they will be giving them trainers. Why would they? They already let the newbie drive without one.

    that’s the issue.

The issue you can't seem to comprehend is that they don't give them any training now. You see the time with a "trainer" as time learning to drive. It's not, it's time learning to use the truck management system (ELD and dispatch) and comp[any policies. Very little to no driving training is accomplished. After a short time, again 50 hours at Swift, then the "trainer" is in the bunk asleep and both are treated like a team. That's the real reason for such a long "training" time. To get the team miles and benefit.

So no, there will be the exact same amount of training as before, which is next to zero.

Equal to, fair enough, but to also say "or greater than" implies that there are cases that it improves upon or is greater than.

Maybe im being pedantic and they are speaking colloquially, but its an official government body issuing an official statement, i dont think its unreasonable that they be precise and clear and not include bits like that if they dont mean it

It's also lawyers and standard boilerplate language is, well boilerplate. They vetted the wording of exemptions probably 20 years ago and simply change the names as needed. Not saying it's good or bad, it just is.
